Allow Steam to use more bandwith?
Whenever I do a Steam download, it only uses around 4% of my network (I'm looking at task manager under processes). I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to get Steam to be able to take full advantage of my internet speed and boost that percentage up to 50% or something like that.

Thanks

Can you post what the actual speed is in Megabytes per second ?

You can play areound with the bandwidth settings and download region locations but do not expect that to help much if at all in this case.

Finally, it could be the network itself unless you have had this problem for a long time. Are you using wireless or ethernet ? Drivers all up to date fully as well as windows ?

I'm using a wired connection, drivers all up to date, windows too. I've tried playing around with download regions but I don't get much of a difference, if any. This has happened to me ever since I've used Steam. Its 3.9 Mbps used by Steam, 4 Mbps used total by the system. It's in the screenshot link.

That is all I get also. 4 on a good day is my best. Are you sure your ISP is not telling you that you will get this and what they give you is that ?

ISP's are famous for this. They claim blazing fast speeds or advertise in Megabits per second and sometimes people don't see that and they get the shaft.

Yeah that's probably it. AT&T is one of the worst companies I've ever had to deal with.

Remember the recent news about the FCC that is going to regulate the internet as a "public utility" ? That just spells bad news even more in cases like this. I saw once that Steam is North America's 7th highest user so get ready for all the crap that is going to come from the good ole FCC.

I feel your pain. I saw one user here that gets 26 Megabytes per second !! He had the screenshot to prove it. LOL...I was jealous to say the least.

EDIT...the only suggestions I can personally give are makeing sure your cables are high quality and routed cleanly in your home...but I am guessing you know that already. The US is so far behind in internet provision, that is for sure.

i cant open the picture, but if youre seeing a network speed in Task Manager, that will be your LAN (Local network) and not the WAN (wide area network) speed.

If you have a 100Mb network card and are downloading from the internet at 4Mb then that would be 4% of your network used.

You need to say what your ISP speed is, rather than the speed your network can run at.

You're looking at the highest possible speed you can send and receive data at, not the speed you are paying for.
