Steam taking random amounts of my money?
I was just charged $1.55, $1.78 and $1.25 over 2 days and I did not purchase anything? I have contacted Steam Support but they have not replied yet. Can anyone offer any insight into this?

Does your account history show anything? Did you add a new payment method recently? Have you gotten any purchase emails?

I recently added $25 to my Steam Wallet with a new MasterCard but have been charged $31.79, $1.55, $1.78 and $1.25 since then. The $25 was the only purchase I have made with the card since then. I have received a email for the $25.

I also cannot purchase anything, which I assume is because of my card needing verification.

So Steam could withdraw the pending transactions for which they overcharged me with? Why would they need to charge me extra in order to verify my card?

The card verify is to make sure the card is not stolen

To do so, they assume only the real owner will have access to the bills, so only they can see how much was charge on it

Then they set that when you start a verify they send 2 payments, and ask you to place them to verify, as the owner is the only one that can see it, anyone Stealing the card will have really really hard time guessing what the amounts are
So it only allow someone with access to the bill to confirm its his account

That is my guess any how :D: i am not sure if that is all my own idea, and i am 100% wrong abut it XD

I've never heard of this.

What I have heard of, and seen done on my cards, is that a company will charge around $1 just to make sure the card is valid and working and they immediately reverse it if it goes through.

That's the only time I've seen random amounts around $1. Those are supposed to be reversed/refunded though.

Also what i say is refunded, but it also makes sure its your account, by making you type in the two amounts you were charged, so they can make sure you are the real owner

I know they do have the type in 2 amounts
All the other things are my guess on that

If its just to see the Card works, they can just test that when you buy the game/add funds, also why they need 2? or to ask you to type it?
I have the same issue I got 3 random transactions from steam that I never did

it is just verification for your payment method
BamPow Jul 7, 2015 @ 8:08pm
not an actual transaction
then why did it take money off my credit card?
