Help me understand on Region based/locked games
Hello everyone this is my first post I just want to ask something about this new region thing steam got, Im not japanese but I currently live in Japan and can stay here as long as I want. I think that it was somewhere around last year when they started making the shop currency the same currency from where I am located, so in my case its currently in Yen..I had no problem with that but just now I tried to pre order Evolve and noticed that the release date of it on my steam was Mar 4 2015!Thats the Japanese release date!Did they made the release dates region based too?!Really WTH?!Im really upset right now for that!! I mean I can just preorder it on PS4 and be able to play it the day it comes out instead of waiting a month to play it after it came out, but if possible I want to play it on the PC since most of my friends doesnt have a PS4.. Will I be able to play it day one if I preorder on Amazon instead, since it will be available on February 10, 2015 at 12:00 AM (US/Pacific) for Amazon, or will I just waste money buying it there and knowing later that it wont play on my Steam because Im from japan?! This is so upsetting!Next time I know they might make game languages based on regions too!

steam isnt the games publisher , they are only going to distribute it , look at the gta games , they always come out on console a year or so before pc . thats just how it is . i'm sure steam would love to release in japan on the 10th , but if they arent allowed to then they cant . here in the us the steam store shows a release date of the 10th of feb , if it's different in japan thats how it is , thats what the publisher wants .

Up til now I would just buy the international version of the games through amazon or steam because the physical japanese version of the game is "japanese"...You can change the voice language but everything will be written on japanese, thats the case on disc games so idk if its the same on digital copies too..This is the first time I saw a steam game that got a same release date as a japanese physical copy and Im afraid they might have made the digital copies sold in Japan the "japanese"version of the game, thats what Im trying to avoid.. Lets say I buy it from amazon and a friend of mine got it from steam, will we still be able to play with each other?Im sorry Im just upset that the evolve on my steam might be a japanese version

It seems the japanese version of Evolve supports ten languages:
German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese.

Looks like they have one version for all regions.
It's the same for my European version, same ten languages.

So if I buy evolve from amazon, will I be able to play it with a friend who bought it from steam?

No. I preordered through Amazon with a US credit card, US address, as a US citizen living in Japan. The problem is Steam reads your IP address as Japanese and will keep the game locked until it is released for that region. As frustrating as this is, it's Steam's choice to do so. The only way to have it unlock on time is to go to America (or a North American IP address that is currently unlocked) and load and play the game there. Upon returning, it should be registered as unlocked. I recall doing this with Skyrim at release when the Japanese release was still a month away. I'm just as frustrated as you, Aqua, but nothing short of going to America will let you play Evolve until March 4th.

I decided to just get the game on PS4 and was able to play on day 1, I was Rank #2 world wide as goliath for 4 days until I decided to play other monsters and hunters.
