I was charged for a game but didn't receive the item.
I completed a transaction for a game, got an error but I was still charged for it. Any tips?

Are you saying that you got the "there has been an error completing your transaction" type of error? If so, this means the handshake didn't complete correctly (normally due to net congestion), so the funds are "set aside" by your card provider/bank until either the problem rectifies itself, or it automatically returns - either can take up to a few days.

Depending on your card provider/bank, you can ring them and get them to check. If it IS this problem, they should be able to tell that the transaction didn't go through correctly and they can release the funds.

If you're using a card such as PaySafeCard, this is quite common, especially if you try during busy times of the day, and it usually takes a few days to clear the issue.

I got an error that said something about my credit card company declined the transaction but still got charged. I don't know if it was because I used the same credit card to buy the game in a friend's account and then on mine with a diference of minutes. But, I'll wait a few days to see if my money comes back, if not, I'll go to my bank so they can check. I'll let you know what happens.

No, that won't do such a thing. It' likely just the usual congestion. You can try to avoid this in future by doing as I suggested - buying when most people in your area are asleep, orfirst thing in the morning.

Do note that if it's a BANK-issued card, you can phone them and assuming they've got decent staff (who know their way round the CHAPS system) they can see such an error and refund it instantly.

What does https://store.steampowered.com/account/ say about your purchase? Did you get a confirmation email from Steam?

Well if you didn't get confirmation from Steam (again you can check the status here: https://store.steampowered.com/account/ ). Then the transaction has likely failed. If that is the case then the payment method company have put a hold on your funds. What that means is that the funds will eventually return to your account/card usually within 1-5 business days (up to a maximum of 10) depending on your payment provider's policies

this post is from 9 years ago.. you might want to start your own new one and describe the problem as best you can.

What game did you buy items in? What items did you not receive?
How did you buy items? through in game shop or Steam directly?
Do you get any sort of error message? etc

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
