But i don't get it, its been playing fine for months and i haven't installed any new games, so why is it suddenly telling me I need more disk space?
I hope i've not got the hassle of having to take my PC (win 10) down the shop to get a bigger HD fitted?
2TB HDDs are $55 on Newegg.
Thanks i suppose i'll have to buy a new HDD as a last resort.
I wish there was some way that you could just run a bulk discovery & verification of the game files for your entire game library at the push of a button. I mean it would take hours and hours to do, but I'd like to think of it in the same way that you occasionally run a deep scan with your virus software that takes a while, and it would be a hell of a smaller pain in the ass than pressing the install button and waiting a while and then repeating the process one at a time for over 100 games.
In future I'm going to try to buy games direct from the game companies instead of from Steam.I'm currently reinstalling DCS World from Steam after it uninstalled itself, and to add insult to injury it's taking 1 day and 14 hours to reinstall!
Not having enough disk space on drives can cause all kinds of issues, namely the very one you witnessed.
So if you "by them direct" or get them on Steam, the hard drive is still going to need plenty of free space for disk operations to work right, and not cause the error you had.

Second point on here "Clear Download Cache" is a quick and easy way of fixing things whenever my library borks itself and tells me a bunch of games aren't installed anymore when they are.
It's alright, the disk space message was wrong, I had to uninstall the old corrupted DCS to get back the disk space, then re-install it and it seems to be working fine.
PS- I write tutorial stuff at the DCS forum which people might want to take a look at.
In my case, 2 of my games on steam just vanished all of a sudden. The folders on my hard drive are empty, and I have not uninstalled them myself. This has never happened to me before, and it is completely beyond me how such a thing is possible.
O NOT AGAIN >:(
lol
Here is the link he is referring to but for some reason didn't copy and paste.

I very rarely have this issue nowadays, and I have a ton of stuff installed.
Are you certain the steamapps folder is empty of your games now?
To point steam to your games location in the top left corner. Steam -> Settings -> Downloads -> STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS (underneath Content Libraries) [with description Manage content locations on multiple drives]
