Year-Old Refunds
Ok, so I have many games that I bought throughout the years that didn't work due to hardware issues, and as mentioned in the Steam Refunds information that could be accepted. But just how fair is it that after about a year or two since I bought and got heavily disappointed they FINALLY release a legit refund system? Look, in all honesty I'm happy that they finally got this going but old Steam users would probably agree with me on this one.

Extra: I decided to check the Support page for info on it like they suggested on the Refund page, and yet all I could find was a little tidbit that clearly said they would discard requests for refunding. Did they just forget to update that or didn't have the time to?

Policies change, going forward you'll be able to get refunds on games you cant run. They are not giving back $50 for a game bought a year or two ago.

I understand your pain, I have at least 2 or 3 games that I could never get to run for different reasons over the years, but its all water under the bridge. Let it go.

With in two weeks or two hours of play. A game purchased a year ago won't be refunded. If it was a day or two shy, or an little over, they could still consider it, but a year over would be an unreasonable amount of time.

Yeah, I do understand the change, but it's just so unfair. I bought many games because the minimum requirements said I could run them, but nooo, they just wouldn't work. So all I did was hide the games in the library (When that function got released...) and act like I never bought them. Sorry, I just can't really "let it go" because it's just not fair.

Some things just aren't fair in life. Sorry.

Bleh. I so expected such replies. It was worth asking, though, because considering how Valve is nice with their customers I expected a bit of fairness. Ah well, thanks for that.

I'm with you on this one. I've bought many things that didn't work. I felt cheated out of my money at the time but even more so now as the option is there but I can't take it.

But if a game didn't work, you should have contacted support after trying to get the issue fixed with the game's developer. Issues need to be addressed immediately. This is true of a lot of things in life... Steam occasionally gave refunds way before today's update existed. You can't wait around dragging your feet and then months or years later decide you should be able to get a refund.

I did try for a share of games, but neither got anything useful done regarding that issue. Sonic games, Cave Story+ (I got it working after getting a new laptop a few months after buying it luckily), etc. I wasn't just "waiting around dragging my feet", I just knew it was obvious I wouldn't get anything done just due to "Hardware issues", especially after failing on that more than twice.... *Sigh.*

Frankly I had heard Steam didn't do refunds so I didn't bother to pursue. Nothing I can do, just shame offer wasn't extended even for partial refunds.
Matt Jun 2, 2015 @ 8:09pm
Did you attempt to contact Steam previously to let them know about the game and to ask for a refund?

Man, even getting half the money back would've been good enough for me, really. :| Especially because as far as I can remember I waited until sales to buy the games that didn't work... With the exception of one, I believe... My memory is just so fuzzy. -_-'

Well, whaddaya know! Two games I bought in December were refunded! It's not that much cash but that's interesting. So the thing about 6-month time I heard is true.
A bit late to the party here, but I'm curious how much you got back vs the original purchase price for the game you had the issue with? I have an identical issue now and they refused to give me back a cent within an hour of me submitting my ticket. They say they "usually" don't give refunds for games that were purchased over 14 days before or were played for 2+ hours, whichever came first. Yet they tell me it "goes against their refund policy." Those statements contradict each other. "Usually" means "possible," yet they tell me it isn't when I ask. I dunno, it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks that they just seem to make exceptions for some people. Worst thing is it's not like you can just boycott Steam. They pretty much have a monopoly on digital game purchases.

You get back what you paid for but ones outside the policy are on a case by case basis under exceptional circumstances. This doesn't mean users can try and claw back old funds (which have been long paid to the dev, banked and spent) because they just want money.

If you are outside of the policy slightly and are having issues, go through the wizard, find the game and then select the 'I have a question about this purchase' option to submit a manual ticket.
