He means that Steam is not the one who put those ads there, but some malware.

It's only Malwarebytes, btw, I mispelled the name.
No it's NOT Steam. The problem is the malware you've acquired elsewhere. Just because the ads pop up whie using Steam, it does NOT mean it has anything to do with it.
This is quite common.
As suggested, you should run Antimalware as it's very good at removing malware which antivirus software can often miss. It's really good practice to use both and remember to keep them both set up to run regularly and update AT LEAST once every day.
There is a very good guide at malewaretips.com. The first steps are to use all the software mentioned above. The final steps include uninstalling steam first. Then, MOST importantly, they guide you on how to remove a hidden folder, AppData\Local\steamfolder. It is very important to delete this folder if none of your previous attempts have worked. Afterwards you can reinstall steam, and God willing, the ads will be gone. I hope this tip can help someone who finds this thread on Google and are at their wits end.
