I have the disk to CS: Source but Steam wants me to purchase it online
I have the Install disc for CounterStrike: Source but when i go to steam it wants me to repurchase it. I want to have it in my library for when I purchase Garry's Mod because I've heard Gmod works better with source but I cant get It from the disc into my Steam Library without steam asking me to purchase it or asking for my card. If it helps I plan on making all of my purchases with steam gift cards but I don't want to waste any money on CS for Gmod if I can just use the dis. Any help to resolve this is much appreciated.

You need the disc and the key it comes with. If you don't have the key, the disc is not useful at all. If you have both you should be able to install and play the game.

If the game didn't come with a cd-key, then you can't add it to Steam or even play it.

The only way is to buy the game, either from Steam or some other retailer. There are no second hand copies when it comes to PC games.

If you are legit i t can be annoying. I have many many including all cod originals... But if did not buy from steam why would they support.

They still do. It is up to the developer if they wish to allow their keys to work with Steam.

There is even a list of retail keys that are accepted.

And that was up to the game's developer, not Steam. That hold for any game that used keys.
