WyreBash touches so much stuff its almost impossible to disentangle. Manually delete everything
I have a handful of saved game files, so I'm not worried there. My problem is that when installing a new copy of the game, all the old dates of the files have been wiped and they are now current dates. I know that won't work with mods. I decided to start a "ticket" for help with Steam, and so far that has generated a reply about my saved games being lost not being retrievalble. *thud*
I am currently waiting on a Reply on how to download the original Steam verion of the game with the old dates intack.
I dumped everytthing I had tried, gone, poof, including Oblivion.. Now I just want to install the game.from scrach. Steam won't give me the original game files to start over. What I get when I download the game is not the original setup.
Download it on another computer then back it up and restore it on your current one, or have a friend copy the unmodded game files to a flash drive and replace your files with his. Also, disable steam cloud for the game.
I know the game isn't the original because all of the dates are now identical in all the files and data. In the original game, some of the files go back to when GOTY came out. This is the way it is supposed to be to accomodate some mods that build on some of those files.
ETA: Well, that didn't work, the system wouldn't let me download to a stick or external hard drive. But in checking all my folders, I found more Wyre stuff in a My Games folder where my saved games were. I saved my games to an external hard drive and deleted the folder and am currently starting over, hopefully. I did delete Oblivion earlier tonight and download another one, but it was messed up too. I deleted my Steam desktop short cut, and anything that might have Oblivion connected. It's been an interesting journey. I had to log in all over again and identify myself. I tried to download the game and it basically ignored me. So... we'll see.
Does anyone know of a program that will restore default dates to data in a Steam game. Does anyone know how to actually contact Steam? I tried the Contact Support thing and they keep wanting to tell me that my saved games might be lost. Well, no, they aren't! I have them nice and cozy in a saved folder. I jsut want my darned game back to the original format. *sigh*
Your only real help around here for support is directly from Bethesda http://help.bethsoft.com/?sid=104259110204069026037034&pid=1570&pnm=Oblivion+Game+of+the+Year+Edition
or the Oblivion forum: http://steamcommunity.com/app/22330/discussions/
If you can't find a solution anywhere then it may be time for a windows/computer format
I find that tends to be what gets missed when someone is trying for a clean install. Just downloading the files again won't removed the additional files for the mods that the game will still try to use.
Keep in mind, any previous saves, that were used with mods, may not work if the mods have been removed.
Then today, I found this thread online.
http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1247863-mods-steam-oblivion-goty/
I followed the link for the date changer, downloaded it and used it. I changed all the Vanilla BSA files to 2006 so the mods will be happy. I'm optimistic that this will work.
And yes, I saved a version of the Data files awhile ago so I don't have to do this again!
So far, all I have added is OBSE, but now, I'm good to go adding mods.
Again, thank you for the support. JJ
