Mass Effect 1 Launch problem
Hi everybody, so i bought mass effect 1 on steam some while ago like last year and it worked perfectly well and i completed the game. And 2 days ago i wanted to restart the mass effect series, so i "launched" the game on steam but what happens is that i see the logo that appears on the screen, then after that the screen is black and the window closes in the bar menu, so i oppen it again and the screen is stil black, but i here this weird sound, SO it closes again and ect..., then at some point i just shut down the game because it's no use.
If you have a solution and that you post an answer thanks a lot!

1) Restart your operating system
2) Verify Integrity of Game Cache - Launch and play the game
3) Mass Effect: Steam Discussions

Ok thanks i'll try and i'll tell you if it worked
1) Right click on the game in question in Steam.
2) Select Properties
3) Local Files (tab)
4) Click Verify Integrity of Game Cache

Wait for it to re-download the missing, corrupt or incomplete files...

If this fails then delete the games folder and re-download & re-install.

If verifying the GCF isn't enough; make sure you've got all the required redistributables installed.

i.e.
  1. Install DirectX[www.microsoft.com]
  2. Install Visual C++ Redistributables[www.microsoft.com]
  3. Update your GPU drivers.

Yeah verifying the game cache didn't work, my gpu drivers are already updated ( i got a nvidia geforce gtx750 ti ), but i don't know for visual C++... and direct x, i'll download it again. And i was wondering i got 2 different hard drives, and could thet be part of the problem? Because mirrors edge, that is an another hard drive than me doesen't work either, but only mass effect and mirrors edge doesen't work otherwise i can play normaly at my other games

Technically that shouldn't be an issue, but it's worth looking into if another game on the same disk is producing issues. You have two locations via Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders, right?

If you've to move the game on another disk, move both the game's folder from SteamApps\ and the appmanifest_17460.acf from the other disk's SteamApps folder to the same disk's SteamApps -folder.

Technically it shouldn't be an issue though, I have Steam scattered on 3 different disks.

Ok so i went in steamApps/common/mass effect/binaries, and on the icon to launch mass effect i did a rignt click, went into proprities, and put it with the windowsxp(service pack 2) compability and run the game as an admninistrator, so now when i click on play at mass effect in my steam account, the screen is black but this time i see my cursor that is charging and the resolution seems to be inferior to what i have usually on my screen. Also i tried ( in the binaries file ) to direct right click on the mass effect icon and choose launch as an admin. and i get this message:
Application load error5:0000065434

I'm having this same issue. Already tried the other fixes and I'm at a loss.

I've tried all of the above and nothing seems to work. I played it about 5 months back then un-installed it once I'd finished. I now want to play through it again, I've re-downloaded it twice and still nothing. I'll try one more time but I'm not holding out any hope.

None of this worked for me. However, this did: Install this update. http://masseffect.bioware.com/me1/pc/updates/index.html
Then run the runme.exe in your game folder in administrator mode.
After that I was able to launch from steam normally.

Okay thanks, I'll try that now.
