Is there a difference between Social Club version of GTA V and the Steam version?

My question is, will i be able to use the Steam network to play online? Like connect with my Steam friends if they do purchase the game too?

If you buy a retail copy of the game (non Steam) then you cannot activate it on Steam. You won't use any Steam features of the game.

Well, your friends who purchased it on Steam would likely sitll be able to connect to the Social Club with their Rockstar accounts, so you would be able to connect with them through the Social Club.

This is so confusing for me, cos i'm intending to get the disc. And i heard that it does not come with a steam code and is like separated from Steam as they are using their own Social Club to run the online mode or something. I'm not sure if i should just get the Steam version instead as i use it a lot.

When you buy the game on Steam, it's added to your Steam account. But you must activate the game on the Rockstar Social Club account before you can play it. Similar to other games from say, Ubisoft that use Uplay, or EA that use Origin.

If you buy it retail, outside of Steam, it only has the Social Club activation, you cannot activate it on Steam.

So retail copies won't have Steam features. But they all have the Social Club.

I want to buy the game so i went to {LINK REMOVED}g2a.com to check the prizes and there are 2 options: 1st is through Social Club, they give me a code and i activate it through Social Club; 2nd is through Steam. I was thinking in buying through Steam because i think is way more efficient when talking about friends lists and all that kinds of stuff but i dont really get the pros and cons of getting it through Steam or Social Club.

The Steam Version:- You have to load Steam to use it. It will still use the Social Club launcher, your in-game friends list will still be the Social Club friends list.

The Social Club only version:- You load it with or without Steam. Your friends list is in the social club.

The only REAL differences are you need to load steam and you have steam achievements available. Everything else is handled via the Rockstar Social Club.

the game runs through RSSC , doesn't matter if your game is the steam install or not , everyone needs a RSSC account to play the game , you can link your steam friends to your RS account so they can find you and vise versa

I have a problem where i cant load the social club website, so i cant even activate GTA 5. It sorta loads like the basic HTML in Gmail, nvm better if i show screen shot. Any other ways to activate gta 5 on steam? I heard of the phone app, idk if its any good tho. Help?

You can only add the Social Club version to Steam as non-steam game .
You will be able to use some Steam features , but you will not get your steam achievements .

Just for people who thinking getting the game ,

Steam version = expencive , Double DRM Steam+Social club accounts needed , Achievements and steam overlay .

Social club = cheaper up to 50% than Steam , single DRM Social Club account needed .
