Portal 2 and Counter Strike: GO will not launch at all. Please Send Help.
For the past few months, I have been completely unable to launch any of the newer Source engine games even though I have been able to before. I have surfed forums, websites, and videos trying to find a cause and a fix.
_________________________________________________
I have :

Updated my video drivers ( In one of the most painful and frustrating updating processes I have ever experienced),

Uninstalled both games and reinstalled (Count) 11 Times.

Verified the Game Cache multiple times.

Reinstalled my video drivers completely

Defragged my entire hard drive.

Cleaned and fixed my registry.

Ran Steam AND Both Games as Administrator.

Updated Windows Important Updates, As well as all Updates involving Intel Core and Nvidia drivers.

I have also updated and reinstalled DirectX and PhysX. (Even though Counter Strike: GO tries installing everytime I launch it.)

I also have the sufficent SSE to run the newer Source Engine.
________________________________________________

I don't think I have ever been this frustrated over a game since Saints Row 2's Port.

I run on a 64 Bit Windows 7 Laptop with NVIDIA GEFORCE 610M Video Drive and an Intel Core i7 processor.

Send for help. Please.

Seems like you have done quite a lot to try to fix it. Nice post on what you have tried so far and that is very helpful.

Have you seen this page yet ? Please read it all CAREFULLY top to bottom.

Thanks for Supplying this List, I hadn't seen this post before. The only program I see on this list that is installed on my system is Mcafee, Which I disabled when I got the computer to run Hitman Pro and Malware Bytes. I will try to disable and whitelist Steam and its functions and see if things change from there.
Thanks for the update. Please keep in mind that "disabled" is not the same as "uninstalled" as you may know, and that support page suggests to uninstal programs perhaps to remove all the possibility of it causing a problem.

I am not saying that will fix your issue here but why not remove the possibility altogether just in case ?

"Please make sure that Steam and all Steam games are listed as exceptions in these programs. If the issue persists, please try disabling or temporarily uninstalling the program to test the issue."

There are antivirus programs out there that are not on the list and work well with Steam.

EDIT...have you checked the game forums for these games in questions and looked for ideas there or posted for help on those forums ?

Well, I have uninstalled Mcafee and whitelisted steam folder on both my security programs to find no change or result other than a lack of update requests from Mcafee now. I also took the liberty of looking for possible Intel Drive Updates. I found an official update program that has been "Detecting" my Intel Chip for about 45 minutes now.

I'll be browsing some of the game specific forums now to possibly find a solution, and if the updater ever loads it may hold a clue or even a possible solution to this issue.

I'll repost this issue in some of the games forums, and possibly include a link to this thread (To keep things clean and save me from inbox spam)

Thanks for the help so far. I just hope we can fix this, and maybe help out some of the other people with the same problem.

EDIT: Steamwise, I've installed both Source SDK's just in case the twisted hands of fate decide that installing them was the solution. I'm up for anything that doesn't involve wiping a harddrive.

Good idea and good luck. Thanks for the update. Maybe others here will have more suggestions also.

Just a quick question please..I am not familiar with those games so do you have any mods installed for them by chance ? Forgive me as I don't know if they can be modded at all.

Portal 2 and CS:GO have workshop support for in-game maps, but I never bothered with installing any.

I've been noticing a pattern here.

Since the beginning of the year I have been getting errors about my video drivers failing to respond. I thought it was reffering to Nvidia, so I updated the drives and did everything to try and fix it, but to no result. After reviewing the error, I still could not pin directly where the error was coming from.

It appears (At least right now) that my Intel Core card is failing.

I have installed numerous Intel Update and Diagnostic tools, just have them fail to load or detect an issue. A few of them couldn't detect a driver at all.

I don't know if its related at all, but I have also been recieving errors involving my registry keys recently.

To Recap:
I Run a 64 Bit Windows 7 Laptop with Nvidia Geforce 610M Driver and Intel Core i7

Just updating you on recent happenings.

Perhaps you need to run checkdisk from windows and let it do its thing. All those issues are a concern for sure. Sounds like hardware at this point as you seem to know here.

Check the disk for errors.

EDIT...Have you seen any BSOD ?

Sounds likes a plan. I'll run checkdisk next.

And Yes, I frequently get BSOD involving my Video Driver timing out.
It gets annoying due to the fact that it can just appear and dissapear at times.

I can go weeks on end without it, and suddenly I'll launch a game like Far Cry 3 and my computer will walk through the valley of the blue shadow of death.

Also, a few minutes ago I tried launching CS:GO and it began running a first time installer. It sat for a few minutes with "Installing DirectX" but nothing appeared and the window closed after about 10 minutes. I checked to make sure DirectX was installed, and it was.

EDIT: I just ran DirectX Diagnostics and it claims that everything is fine. No problems detected in sound or display. This is starting to get strange.

Man, if I was you I would back up everything I did not want to lose from that drive ASAP. Sounds like maybe a failing drive here. Just an idea...

I am thinking registry errors so be prepared in case.

This Computer has been trustworthy, but I think your right. Its time to setup for an oncoming storm I guess. But for now, I'm going to work with getting Portal 2 and CS:GO working again. I'll have a storage unit (My Huge Unused Office Tower) ready by tommorow.

Ok and good luck. Of course I could be wrong here but I think you are on the right track. Do a chack disk after you back up all files you don't want to lose. If that shows errors as it runs, it would be a good clue for you.

Set it to fix all errors like the boxes asks you when you set it up. If it does fix all the errors it may find, perhaps you can try to reinstal the video drivers then and perhaps test it from that point on.

Sounds like a good course of action for you. Again, good luck and post back anytime for more help or if you fix it.

EDIT...sorry but one more thing...booting into safe mode can be a good place to test problems also. Since your drivers for Nvidia are not loaded then, if you can stay on your PC that way, it can be a good clue for you also as to the actual problem. You should be able to uninstall drivers from safe mode too and start over on their reinstallations. If you feel the need to at that point.
