Items sold on my account without my permission, help ?
Before you say "Contact steam support" i already have.

While i was asleep my little brother (8 years old) accessed my computer and steam account WITHOUT my permission. he sold my cs:go knife and brought cases & keys. he unboxed the cases and didn't receive anything good, he thought i'd be mad so he sold everything in my cs go inventory to unbox more and try to get a knife. long story short, i had over $300 nzd cs:go inv 2 days ago now it's under $1.

Since the account was accessed without my permission is there anyway steam can reverse the transactions and restore my inv ?

P.S: i know it's up to me to stop people accessing my account but i was asleep, and i now seriously on the verge of quitting cs:go as those items ment ALOT to me and were all i had to show for the 100+ hours and 180USD i spent on the game. :(

Most likely you will be out of luck. You cant prove that it was your little brother that used your account. For Steam, they only see that a legitimate transaction was made from your account. Also, your account security is your responsibility alone. So i don`t think you have any chance of getting those items back.

Yea i know, i just really hope steam can see it from my view point.

I've heard of people getting there items back from hackers, and quite frankly i don't see how this is different because both cases involve unauthorized access of the account. Welp

and although i can't prove it was my little bro, i am a somewhat experienced trader (made $80 over what i spent on CS:GO) so why would i trade my $250 knife for a chance of getting another knife... also this is the first time i have contacted steam with this kind of issue so i hope they are understanding.

Anyway thanks for the feed back

They're not gonna help you with that, how do they know it wasn't you trying to get lucky and then claiming someone else got on your account?

I don't really believe the brother story either, who the hell goes on someone's account and starts messing about with their items and selling them???

I see your point dude, and i realize the chances are pretty slim of them helping me.

but if i wanted to claim someone else was on my account i would have used a proxy or vpn to make it appear as if i was logging in from another country or area, : /

As stated by the users above:

Steam Trading Policy
Steam will not return any items or gifts that you feel have been traded unfairly. There are no exceptions to this policy. All trades are final.

What is Steam's policy regarding items that were traded while an account was stolen?
Users are responsible for the security of their Steam accounts and computers, including the safekeeping of login information. It does not matter if a friend is using the account, or if the account was being borrowed by another user. It is up to the account owner to safeguard the account against such activities. I even said that i know it's up to me to safe guard my account. sometimes you can't, i had no idea my brother would do something like this and i have heard of similar cases were steam have given items back.

It's a bit unfair that i loose all my items because of one mistake (forgetting to log out of steam)

how would you feel if i found a exploit, accessed your account and sold all your items ???

just think what it's like to be in my shoes for a min before you just post terms (I already said in my original post that i know it's my responsibility)

"how would you feel if i found a exploit, accessed your account and sold all your items ??? "

You wont...because I will always log out of my account when I am not using it and I will never let anyone else have access to it because of all this that can happen and because that is against the SSA anyway.

Set your Windows User to be password protected.

Set your Power Options for "Require Password on Wakeup" (meaning anytime u switch to Login Screen, or the system wakes from Sleep Mode and alike, it will require the user password to resume the desktop viewing.

When u walk away from your system, use Winkey + L to Lock the system.

All this is good advice that good users have given here but the idea that an 8 year old has access to a PC without any supervision is another point of interest in my opinion. I am just saying here.....

I mean a exploit in general, lets say i found a exploit on your os that allowed me to open ports and go in via a backdoor and key log or r.a.t you. now that i have unauthorized access to your pc i sell your items. Would that be your fault ?

Now before you say "that's different", no it's not. i would accessed your pc without permission and you could have taken preventative measures such as a scanning for open ports or reading about r.a.ts and having the knowledge to prevent them.

I do have a password on my pc, my brother knows it as he is allowed to use my pc. but he isn't aloud on my steam, fyi i usually log out of steam as well.

and your thing about SSA, i don't live in or any were close to america so it doesn't apply to me.

i know this, since i have a little bro (that doesn't have a pc) my mum said that he can use my pc when i'm not (But he cannot use my steam) and i an usually logged out of steam. i didn't expect a 8 year old to come into my room while i was asleep, take my pc and do this. just try to think of it from my point of view.

The Steam SSA applies to everyone equally.
