Download speed keeps fluctuating
My DL speed keeps going up and down. I've set my bandwidth to be no limit. It usually peaks at 11 Mb/s then drops to 0 Kb/s. Its downloading fast but why isn't it a constant connection? I've tried switching severs but that doesn't help.

I think it's alright, happens to me too.
Basically I think it's because Steam wants you to still have some bandwidth to browse the internet while downloading, so it's dinamically changing speed according to other processes that consume some amount of bandwidth.

Depends on overall traffic. U can't expect to always have consistency with online downloads. No matter how good your ISP or hardware is. Besides the things u can't control, this also occurs due to: others on your local network, what your background apps are doing, and if u are doing other things that are using your connection, such as via web browser and such. Those are all contributing factors.

As far as having a good download rate and then seeing a drop to 0, then back up again, that is usually due to the game at hand, as some games require decompression as they go, which means seeing "Busy Writing to Disk". When that is taking place, the download will appear to halt for a bit. It's normal with game downloading, such as Steam.

Try setting your bandwidth limit low(mine is set to 3mb), then try downloading a game and as the game is downloading click play, then click override current bandwidth limit, hope this works for you:)

Steam in the top left, then "settings", then "Downloads". The settings for bandwidth limits are there, as well as others.

At least for me, i think is a Disk problem actually! If my Disk can't take the amount of space, the download speed will go down too. I THINK! I'm not sure tho... And i believe that because when the steam allocated the disk space for the game it took hours...

That is completely normal. It's what connection speeds do. They fluctuate. They're not ever going to be a specific, exact, speed.

If it is dropping out to zero or close to zero at times it could be your hard drive. I had the same problem, and to combat it till I get the motivation to click a few buttons and buy an SSD , just open resource monitor and give steam the highest priority setting. If this is cause of your problem, it's just a matter of the hard drive not having enough bandwidth to handle all of the data coming in and out, so, steam being less of a priority as far as the OS is concerned, it limits how much it can read/write, thus causing your download speed to outpace the HD bandwidth it is allotted.
