Can we just get a setting to uncensor the forums
Its not exactly like love hearts are fooling anyone "OOOOH WHATS BEHIND THEM, MORE LOVE HEARTS" no buddy its just someone calling you a female dog
Just a setting to change this would be nice, doesn't have to be forcefully enabled for everyone, just the people who have had enough of this censorship (I'm Australian, we have had enough censorship in our games, we don't need it in our lord gaben forums as well)

I second this idea. There's an adult mode on other sites, like YouTube, Flickr, DeviantArt etc. which seems to work ok, and this is an ageing community.

This current implementation of censorship suffers from false positives, can filter inside URLs etc. You then have to quote the message to reveal the original as a workaround. To many of us, these hacks are just an annoyance.

Having it on by default but user customisable should please everyone (at least, to the highest extent possible; someone will always complain of course) :D:

Keep the hearts; they don't only censor swearing but also unauthorized resellers and other illegitimate websites.

I disagree, keep the hearts. (This should go under Steam Discussions)
Well really, welcome to the internet
If they are playing games on steam (TF2 etc.) there isn't any censorship in them so they aren't going to be looking for bad words in the forums (I didn't post it in the steam discussion because that forum is quite dead compared to the others)

A simple "Language Filter On/Off" setting in your Steam Account Details would suffice.
You can toggle that on/off on many things, it should be up to the user.
Just have it On by default is all.

You can find bad things via Google search, is that Google's fault?

-snip-
I mean URLs; admittedly they could just censor the middle part too.

It's not about hiding swears, it's about stopping people from using them.

It's against the rules to swear, you don't get a free pass just because it doesn't show. Mods can still punish your for swearing in abundance.

Same with those links.

This is true but what about what Teutep said ? Filtering malicious links is also a good feature of the "hearts" and I would not want to turn that off like you suggested here but I do like your idea otherwise.

Sorry but as someone here said, maybe this should be in discussions so forgive me.

URLs are filtered when found be bad sites pointing towards illegal things, or found to be malicious code usage, etc. And URLs not being filtered on-the-fly are left up to Mods to come in and see it (usually via Reporting of others) and then edit the persons post to have such links removed.

However for general links (as Steam can't cover everything via Whitelisting and such) that is why Steam warns u about any links u click basically. It's telling u that if u wish to continue to that link, Steam bears no responsibility, as it should not have to when it is outside of Steam.

Good point. Fair enough.

Honestly I have never seen a forum post be deleted due to swearing alone. And due to the fact that there is swearing in my name, I don't exactly believe they are using that rule

The issue with profanity filter is it's not 100% either. Steam Rules cover things such as being rude to others, saying phrases in general or towards others relating to hate or use of violence, etc.

So with that said, if profanity was allowed, it would go against their own preset rules by even doing so. Which means they would have to go edit all sorts of their own ToS/Forum Rules; so yea not likely to happen here.

OP, you touched on another point here concerning user names. Take yours for example. Not really a big deal as far as I am concerned but I have seen MUCH worse ones here, like extremely racial ones for example.

My point is that usernames are not filtered it seems so that is a problem also in my opinion.
