Download speeds stuck at 1.2 MB

I have noticed my download speeds are stuck at 1.2MB/S, yet I have a 10MB/S connection. Does anybody know the reason as to why Steam seems to limit download speeds?

Is the 10MB/s 10 megabytes; or 10 megabits? If the latter, then 1,25 megabytes seems about right.

10 megabytes. I get a steady 9.95 mbps on speedtest. Both on my android phone and laptop.

mbps is NOT megabytes. it is megabit. 1byte = 8bits.
so 10 mbps is 10 Megabit per second, which is equal to 1.25 MByte per second

Speedtest shows in Mb (Megabits), Steam show speeds in MB (Megabytes.

8 Mb = 1 MB, so, as Zureiya said, a 10 Mb connection will show as 1.25 MB/s on Steam.

It is a very common error. One that I blame the ISPs for. They show it in Mb to make the numbers look better.

The key here is that UPPERCASE B as in MB is MegaBYTEs, which is larger.

lowercase b as in Mb is Megabit, which is 1/8 of a MegaBYTE.

Well.. I think I understand you. My broadband is 100 Mbps, the download speed is around 10MB/s on all other softwares like origin and others. But only steam stuck at 1.2MB/s on steam, even i changed download location, i also would like to know the reason.
