Cant install steam on ubuntu.
I have done this many times. I got a new computer, and wish to install steam on it. I just put Ubuntu on it yesterday, but steam wont install. Here is the installation terminal:

Steam needs to install these additional packages:
libgl1-mesa-dri:i386, libgl1-mesa-glx:i386, libc6:i386
[sudo] password for (my ubuntu username):
.....................................................................................................
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 : Depends: libglapi-mesa:i386 (= 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3)
unity-control-center : Depends: libcheese-gtk23 (>= 3.4.0) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libcheese7 (>= 3.0.1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
Press return to continue:

In the event of pressing return, I receive the following message in a different window:

You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run:
libc.so.6

Thanks for your help

What method are you trying to install these? Apt-get, .deb, tar.gz, etc. I'm a Fedora person, so my Debian terminology may be off, but you should get the idea.

OK, it was working, but after it finished updating, I received, You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run:
libGL.so.1. Following that, It said: "Fatal error: Failed to load steamui.io".

Ok. I am now in a game on steam. I simply tried using the apt-get method instead of the .deb method. Works great!

I've just installed blank new Ubuntu 14.04.2 64-bit and have the very same situation. Was trying to install Steam by pressing Download button on Steampowered site and then open file in Software Center.
I will try to install through apt-get.

P.S. Steam installed by apt-get install had ended with the same issue as in topic.
Finally I found that helped me
sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic:i386

As far I can tell this is not resolved - very off putting for newbie who installs Ubuntu and then wants to play a steam game. Might they give up and install windows?

Just installed steam on Ubutnu 14.04LTs and got:

And the average computer user or above average and cannot be bothered will be put off Ubuntu/Steam and be installing windows possibly?
