How to add limited users as friends?

Some of my friends wanted to play Nosgoth together, but he never made a steam account before.

Going under the page about limited users, it's really confusing as to what the limited users can do. I can understand that they HAVE to buy a game to become a normal user, but what if they only want to play the free games on steam?

tl;dr - Friend made a new steam account, I can't add him (I am a normal user, not limited). How can I add him as a friend?

Someone must add them first in order to be friends with them, they cannot add people themselves.

Actually, here's the problem. I want to add them as a friend, but as a limited user, I think they don't pop up when I search for their names.

Lots of people have problems with the search. Ask him to send you his profile URL and add him from there.

? What the hell? I wrote something because I am a limited user and my friend also had troubles finding me, so I wrote something here so he could find me and add me. Spam? You must be an idiot because I am even attributing to this conversation with a way for limited users to get found by friends.

You necro'd the thread, which is frowned upon here. The solution to the friend finding problem was alraedy given above....to share URL with each other.

Are you being serious? Golly, go hide in the bathroom and cry. Sadly the url trick doesn't work either. Limited users can't add friends so how do they want to write? As a limited user, you can't be found in search results. How do you want to be written to?

We found my URL though, jop, but only through the webbrowser and you can't add friends in the webbrowser you smart-ass.
