Can't sign in with correct password

My gf came over to visit me (CA to USA) and we tried logging into their steam account. They had forgotten their password and rest it, saved the password to their phone to try to log into the steam mobile app. After copy pasting the correct password an error came up that says, "there was a problem while signing you in, something went wrong while attempting to sign you in please try again later.". It happens both on their phone, my second pc (which I had just logged out of days before), and on their own pc now that they are back home. We're stuck and don't know what to do. Can anyone please help? Thank you!

edit: this has been an issue for roughly 2 weeks now, I can confirm that they weren't banned. I've heard lots of people having issues with steam's servers but I'm starting to question if that's causing this for so long.

Use the "add another account" option to login after a password reset/change.
