why does steam resetting my updating progress?

an update came for a game and i started to update it but every time steam resets the updating progress. the update was like 5 gbs or something and i started to download it. i stopped it several times and when i tried to countinue the updating progress steam started to download the WHOLE GAME. 54 GBS. and it is not first time that i am struggling with that. steam did it like 3 or 4 times when i tried to download the past updates. my internet connection is so slow that i started to think about selling my not existing wife. so please help i dont want to download the whole game every time an update comes.

First off are you SURE it's downlading the whole thing, because it can be confusing. Some games appear to do that but aren't, and does it actually say it's downloading that or does it say patching or something similar at the time? Because if it does that's not downloading. It's just patching the whole files already there.

Do also note that if you're stopping and starting downloads and they keep going back to zero and restarting you may either have issues with a corrupted download cache and should clear it under steam settings, or your hard drive may be dying.

Same problem here. Have had this issue ever since they updated the Steam UI.

It appears the file verification after changed files are moved fails to check the changed files since they have been moved...
