how to get someone to stop harassing me?
idk if this is the right place to ask this but i need to ask somewhere

someone (who will remain unnamed due to forum rules) has been harassing me for months on steam. i made the mistake of interacting with someone who seemingly trolls the steam forums and baits people years ago, and eventually realized my mistake. i ignored him for months but he continued to comment on many posts i made, seemingly following my post history. the comments are usually passive aggressive argumentative things that don't obviously break rules

eventually i get tired of this and ask him directly to stop. i told him it makes me uncomfortable and consider it harassment. he did not stop, instead started to do it more. i've since asked him over 30 times to please leave me alone and he always continues to reply. he has directly stated he will not stop, he has commented calling me a word that would probably get this post deleted multiple times, he has referenced "irl" before which obviously made me very uncomfortable considering, and he continues to follow my posts

blocking him doesn't work as blocked users can still see your post history and reply to you for some reason, and as far as i'm aware reporting him hasn't resulted in anything either. how can i get this to stop? i don't want to be forced off the steam forums but idk what to do at this point

Be sure its all VERY well documented and maybe re-submit it to steam support. After that I suggest you just ignore that person. Some people just live sad lives and have nothing going for them and thus they take it out on other people. Make your profile private except to those on your friends list.

First, stop engaging the other person. Don't even ask them to stop. You already made the request. Any further attempt will just embolden them more knowing their efforts are having a desirable impact on you.

Second, keep flagging, reporting, whatever they've done. While you may not be seeing any action taken against them by Support doesn't mean it's not happening. It also establishes the timeline and creates a continuous papertrail for Support to follow and to support your case against them.

Lastly, the blocking function is meant to be a benefit to you, not as a punishment on them. The purpose is to hide them from you so you don't have to endure their shenanigans. Don't click to show hidden comments. Just move on.

These kinds of people require attention. If you give it to them, they'll never leave you alone.
Hogarth is one of the few genuinely 'sane' forumgoers in cs2. If he is 'harassing' you (which I honestly doubt) or anyone, there must be a good reason for it.

If you look at the OP's post history, you might not necessarily be 'shocked' that they are not telling teh whole story
internet safety is big these days

if you truly believe you are being harassed

you document it and take it to your local authorities and let them deal with it

not wanting someone to respond to you in a public forum is not going to do it

at least in my opinion

but i am not an officer or anything

maybe the police/da where you are will disagree

This sums it up nicely.
If we overuse the word "harassment", it starts to lose meaning, then people who actually experience real harassment will find it harder to get help they actually need.

thanks for the advice. prior to asking the person to stop harassing me i ignored them for almost half a year and in that time (despite not being super active on the forums) probably over 100 replies :/ and i don't want to be forced to make my profile private because i want to interact with people and i want people to be able to comment. just a shame it's more better enforced i guess, thanks though

yup, i never read the comments but it's still very frustrating to have someone derailing and causing arguments in every thread i interact with. the person did this for months even while i was completely ignoring them. thank you for the advice though

Block? It's not really hard
i wish it was that easy but blocks don't prevent people from replying to you on the forum for some reason. the content of the replies isn't the issue since this individual evades breaking the rules anyway, but having threads i'm on constantly be derailed and arguments started because of this is frustrating :/

every time you make a thread like this they are smiling a little more

if they derail a thread or start arguments

report them and move on

yea, i ended up reported OP's posts for derailing/posting off-topic on threads. the so called "harasser" is posting very on topic & relevant messages.
