What is "localization"?
I'm just wondering what is "localization" with regard to games on Steam? I'm seeing all these threads requesting either Russian or Ukrainian localization.

It's something different from just support for a particular language in the game, right?

As long as their language is supported by the game, why would anyone care about localization?

It means basically those individuals asking to localize the game is to translate it into their native language, depending on where they live. I suggested to them before to volunteer to do it for free, as that is usually how developers want translations in other languages.
Ever since the war began, they've been spamming those threads in every game hub.

Mostly because game developers are using the war to not translate games on purpose as a way of protesting the war overseas. As i said before, if they want to translate it, some person should volunteer to do it.

Or maybe it's because they can't sell their games in Russia because most western countries have put economic sanctions in place.

Depends on the country. I don't think all countries put sanctions on Russia, but many have done it.
