Not possible to close HL2.EXE process. Please need help !!!!!! TF2 related...
Hi everyone,

Suddenly from nowhere I got this problem (never had it before).

hl2.exe process is runing in background. I can't close Steam Client because its saying that first I need to close Team Fortress 2 ! If i want to close Steam Client I must kill it via task manager.

I can't kill "hl2.exe" in task manager.

I can play other games like CSGO an other ones but my Steam Client says that I'm playing TF2 even if I'm playing for example "Alien Isolation" and the hours is going up for TF2 in recently played games !!!??

Log out llog in from client doesn't help.

I restarded my PC and its still the same ! HL2.exe is still running in task manager !!

Can't uninstall TF2 because Steam is saying to close it first.

Can't delete TF2 folder because Windows says that HL2.EXE i s still open.

I have Windows 8.1

Guys i really would appreciate your help, I'm dessperate here. Don't know really what to do anymore :(

you can try to force kill the progres by doing this: press windowsbutton + R > type cmd > type tasklist and find HL2.exe and look at the PID number of it > the type taskkill /f /pid then type number found in previous step
=============================
if that doesnt help then contact steam about this

Interesting. I type that and it says that that hl2.exe is not running even tough it shows up on the tasklist.

Go to the processes tab.

The only place where it shows up on the task manager is the 'additional information' tab and when I try to end the process there, it tells me that the usage is denied.

Have you tried doing it with the admin account?

Open your task manager, go to processes and look for gameoverlayui.exe (may not display the ".exe" part), right click and select "End Task". If you're on Windows 7 and that doesn't work then select "End Process Tree" and that'll do it.

I used to have this issue a few years ago, it's the Steam in-game game overlay process not being cleared up when you exit the game and because of that, Steam will still think you're playing it. Closing HL2.exe is only useful if you're playing a Source game and it crashes without auto closing afterwards.
