But I can download a test file from testmy.net at Download :: 15.3 Mbps 1.9 MB/s .

It's not strange at all. Geogrphy is al but irrelvant to internet connection.

If where you live is busy, then neighbouring regions are likely to ALSO be busy, which is why you didn't have much luck with Dallas, Houston, etc.

That's precisely why I said go for the weird options. Many make the mistake of just choosing close by.

Still could be the possability of the internet throttling the US ones and haven't caught on to the non-US ones.

Unlikely, as throttling is at source. You can't escape it by changing your download region. It still has to route to YOU.

Yes, I've heard of that, but the point is that such blocking CANNOT be circumvented by changing the STEAM download region. So if you were having traffic limiting, you would have it for ALL regions you try.

Hmm, well in that case, it's quite possible.

Satellite ISPs are a strange beast indeed. Of course, the obvious thing to suggest is to change ISP if you can, but as you're already on satellite, I guess your options are rather limited, so it's moot.

Satellite ISPs are a strange beast indeed. Of course, the obvious thing to suggest is to change ISP if you can, but as you're already on satellite, I guess your options are rather limited, so it's moot.

yeah, the only other thing in the area is a small WISP that is splitting up Suddenlink cable on towers at 62 KB/s, or 2 Mbps (about 250 KB/sec?) . And I have NO idea how reliable they are.

Of course 1 mile North, closer to the city limits, there is ATT DSL.. and 2.5 miles (City limits) there is ATT and Suddenlink.
