My Steam and Discord Got Hacked – Need Advice!!
Hey everyone,

I’m really stressed out and not sure how to explain this properly, but I think my Steam account got hacked. The weirdest part? My Discord account was hacked just before this happened. I don’t know if these two things are connected, but it feels like more than just a coincidence.

Here’s what happened: I logged into Steam and found out that someone had accessed my account without me getting any login notification. They tried to buy a $50 Steam gift card, but luckily, I caught it in time and canceled the transaction before it was completed. The gift card was never used or fully purchased—it was just in "pending" status. But the money hasn’t been refunded to me yet, and I don’t know what to do.

Now, about Discord—I got hacked there before my Steam account was compromised. The strange thing is that I never clicked on any suspicious links or downloaded anything shady, so I have no idea how this even happened. Could it be some kind of new exploit or method hackers are using?

I’ve already contacted Steam Support, but I’m really anxious about all of this. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Could my accounts be linked somehow, or is there another security issue I’m missing?

Any advice would mean a lot. I just want to make sure my accounts are secure and hopefully get my money back. Thanks in advance, and sorry if I’m not explaining this well—I’m just really freaking out right now.

Take the following steps to secure your Steam account:

1. Scan for malware. https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Check that the email and phone number on the Steam account are still yours.
3. Deauthorize all other devices. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
4. Change passwords from a clean computer.
5. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
6. Revoke the API key (there should be no key). https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

You must have at some point. Phishing works because the victims don't realize that the website they're logging into isn't the real one, and so they don't suspect anything is amiss.

Just to clarify, the purchase did go through, meaning the money was taken from my account. But because the gift card was still in a "pending" status, neither I nor the hacker actually received it since I canceled the transaction before it was completed, I hope you guys understand what i mean

Because you did not properly secure your account after removing the malware. The scammer already had access to your account (if the malware was actually the cause of your problem).

The damage was already done as they had full access to your account and PC before you removed the malware. Even simply removing it doesn't relinquish their access so you'll need to secure every account used on the device.
I also got this Link and clicked on it, how to remove this message from my account.

I already did all the pw reset and regained control of my account, the only damage seems to be my empty friend list.
Stop using Discord. it is very full of scammers. It you do not use it in the first place, you will avoid them. This is why i never use it. Everyone always asks to me to use it, but i refuse to use it.

Also, there is already enough scammers on steam, so why would you use discord to expose yourself to even more?

NOTE: Steam chat works fine. Not sure why people do not use it. i have used it for many games. I think people try to invite me to discord to scam me. Maybe it is harder to scam on steam chat?

Your computer just got pawned by trojan virus / keylogger. Have you ever download any pirate software or games?
