In EG Launcher, if you open Settings, at the very bottom I think they have the build version.
Mine reads 18.0.0-40242966, what is yours?
Looking at their roadmap (https://trello.com/b/GXLc34hk/epic-games-store-roadmap) I'd have said I'm on the previous build but my EGL is not indicating an update is available. So don't know if I'm reading things incorrectly, or updates are made available in batches or something...
All that to say the Steam Overlay/Steam Input works for me with EG and Rocket League.
Update: I checked the EG Launcher executable, it and the other files in that folder have modification date 25 Feb which was when the previous version was released.
Steam input for Fortnite has worked perfectly. After not playing for the last two weeks, I wanted to get back into it last night and discovered that the controller no longer works at all.
I placed a Bug Report about it (you might support): https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/0/596268959542617435/
Things are working fine for me with the EG client and Rocket League but, as I wrote in my previous post, I'm not sure if my EGL is on the latest build or not... It doesn't say it has an update but things seem to indicate I'm on the previous build, I could be misunderstanding the figure I'm seeing though.
I have Fortnite downloading so will see how that goes.
Epic Launcher: 18.0.0-40242966+++Portal+Release-Live
Epic Online Services: 2.8.2-39456748+++Portal+Main-2cef89
EAS: 1.3.7.0
Newly installed March the 6.
We have the same for Epic Launcher, so then my client is on latest build.
I presume they'll also be the same but I don't know where to locate the EOS and EAS info.
Now I'm wondering if the issue is related to the new Epic Games Updater Service. On my Settings page it tells me about it but I decided not to install it.

Fresh EGL installations will install the service - not sure what date that applies from but I'd think it applies to your installation.

They mention its not active all the time though, just when updating, so maybe the issue is elsewhere.
UPD: got Fortnite installed and get the same issue as y'all. The service not being installed doesn't help. Rocket League is fine.
Everything is working perfectly for me again, as it should.
There was a Steam Beta and a Fortnite update today. I don't know if it's directly related or if someone else did the right thing in the background - I'm very pleased and thank you very much.
Whoever it was - you have been awarded the Order of the Truly Cool Heroes.
UPDATE: fixed the axis issue, still no input on fortnite
