Is Steam retarded?
Is Steam retarded? I'm signed in so it should know my age but it asks me anyways and if I accidentally click the wrong button I can't view stuff anymore. This should be the simplest thing to program past. Newbs.

They have to ask for legal reasons.

No you miss understand that...

All you need to do if you put the wrong age is to restart Steam.. then it will ask for the age again..

And as @FFL2and3rocks tell you its for legal reasons..

the age thing is retarded in the 1st place on anything. it annoys me so much i always put jan 1st 19 then slam my fingers into my number pad and the 1st 2 that come up are the end of the year.

Steam client remembers your birthday, you just have to click Enter. And I think it's only once per time you start the client.

Enhanced Steam addon for Firefox and Chrome automatically loads the Jan 1st 1955 date when you go to a page that requires age verification.

Always wondered why they can't just put 2 buttons instead
* I am 18 or older
* I am younger than 18
or whatever the age restriction is

Isn't that exactly the same thing from a legal perspective? But far less annoying..

That would enable people who even are not old enough to do the calculation to get the game. Also it would tell them how old they have to pretend to be.
what calculation? They just answer with their age.

I'm pretty sure kids of any age know how old they are by the time they are old enough to input their date of birth into a computer.

As for revealing how old they have to pretend to be, the percentage of people who decide to lie about their date of birth to gain access but still accidentally enter a date which is too young has gotta be very low..

Plus, as I said "from a legal perspective" it's the same isn't it? It's the exact same information being used to decide if you can view the material, and just because they put it in the form of 2 buttons doesn't mean steam is giving you permission to lie.
Lie by clicking the wrong button, or lie by inputing the wrong date of birth, it's all the same.

In the U.S., in certain areas you have to be 21 to purchase certain things so an 18 only check box wouldn't work. The way they work now is like a gas station or grocery store, eve if they have rung you up for an adult only purchase they still have to i.d. you in order to comply with the store and state's policies.

Of course you can circumvent it. That's not the point. The age check wasn't designed to be a technological hurdle -- only to cover Valve's ass in the event of a lawsuit.

LOL I've been using Steam since like 15 and they can't do ♥♥♥♥. All you have to do is scroll up on the thing to 1900s or something and it'll still accept. Because people born in the 1900s play Counter Strike hahahahaa

I'm sure plenty of people born in the 1900s play Counter strike. Unless you think all CS players are 14 years or younger. :)
