right click your avira tray icon and go to "cofigure avira ..."
go to the scan options and add file object exceptions for
[YOUR_STEAM_DIRECTORY]\GameOverlayUI.exe
and
[YOUR_STEAM_DIRECTORY]\package\tmp\GameOverlayUI.exe_
You may want to search the files by clicking the "..." button
If you do so, AVIRA will stop showing warnings for malware (TR/DROPPER.GEN)
How to disable/enable client beta:

Seems that valve have messed something up with last beta, and avira's going mad, but I'm sure they will fix it in the next beta release. So in the meantime, let's quit the client beta.
Cheers!
Dear Community,
actually Avira is getting this correct. TR/Dropper.Gen is just mal-/adware. I would guess that something got changed in Steams game-advertising system and therefor it gets detedcted (correctly) as mal-/adwar because it was not yet added to the safe list. The risk quote of Dropper.Gen is very low, so just make the OverlayUI accepted by your Avira.
Just wondering if this is going to keep occurring after today, since its has never happened previously thought steam may have potentially been compromised, with all that recent heartbleed ssl bug drama
(For example, one high-profile false positive: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/04/21/mcafee_false_positive/ )
It was only "detected" by Avira.

Or upload it yourself.
