Can't Go A Full Week Without Language Change
So, yeah, I seriously haven't gone more than (ok, fine) two weeks, but usually not one, without my language randomly changing. Like what gives, Steam? This has been affecting me personally for a few years, and one Google search reveals, idk, thousands of other people who raise the same issue. Can I just disable languages changes? Is there any effort of any kind at Steam to correct this problem or create a workaround like I've just described?

What a strange problem. I've never had it happen to me but it sounds quite annoying.

Is the problem on the client, the website, or both?

Everywhere, including mobile. I will do my Steam forum thing. Go to bed, wake up, go to work, and when I come home I'm reading Spanish, or Arabic, or some language which doesn't even have characters I recognize as being from the planet earth.

It's like someone went into my account settings and changed it, but I would probably remember doing that... the idk... 100 times it's happened.

I heard it can happen if you visit someones profile that is in another language.

Mine did it once randomly, but hasn't again...think I visited someones profile and it changed after that. Don't really remember.

Just to be sure: Have you tried going into the settings, ensuring it is set to English, and then logging completely out of Steam to save the settings? I'd do that on every platform and then see if it happened again.

Sorry, that's the only thing I can think of at the moment.

:(

Yeah, at this point I am convinced that it isn't a thing that I can fix from my end, it's clearly some bug in how Steam manages profile settings. Maybe it is when I look at a profile, but I don't really look at profiles often so without a systematic experiment I couldn't say for sure that it is or isn't that. Either way, my language shouldn't be changing without AT LEAST asking me first, let alone all on it's own.

Do you click any links or do anything else what might change the language?
When I normally browse Steam websites the language never changes for me but when I click some links on Google for example it may change depending on the link.

Not true.

Only if someone gives you a link (a person or Google) what has parameter to change the language then your language changes to the parameter set.
Example: http://steamcommunity.com/id/Slayer00?l=english
That will change your language to English.

Sometimes if I Google for something and click the link my language changes because Google likes adding the l parameter to it's links.

Have you tried flushing your DNS? It's probably a long shot but it's the only thing I can think of.

DNS shouldn't be the problem since the URL stays the same, instead the problem might be with cookies where the language setting is saved for web browsers.

well i am not sure if any one can really replay on that... so try to see if support known more?

i had a random change here and there (so far happen 2 times for the last 4 years) so i guess it is some bug... but i did not hear abut one having it every week

So i can only guess something you do is messing it up XD

I really couldn't say if I'm doing something to make the language change. I do the same things everyone does on the internet, more or less, so I couldn't point at something. Either way, isn't it considered a bug that clicking on a link changes Steam's language without asking or notification? That's kind of my point here is whoever is in charge of fixing this isn't doing a good job.

Like what? I mean, there is an option for language... and I'm not changing it. If I am 'doing something" that changes it otherwise then that's a bug, and so I am not to blame.

It's like someone tells you their brakes keep being applied in their car, but they aren't stepping on the brake and then suggesting it's something the driver is doing. How do you figure?

I never say you do something wrong.. like i sayed it did happen to me as well here and there so my guess is something that may not even be on Steam it self dose something that change the cookie or what ever they use for the language and mess it up
And maybe you some how have it more as you doing something more then any one else

And i am asking to try to find the problem so we know what we looking for here and how it may be fix
