Resident Evil 4 HD won't run.
I have Vista Home Premium - old I know. I also have a 64bit. Alienware M17.

Every time I hit the launch button for RE4 in steam, it'll start to load, but immediately stops and says "Resident Evil 4 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Now, when this first happened I went into the properties and verified the game cache. It found 4 files missing an reacquired them. But the error still happens - even after I restarted steam. I asked a friend they suggested setting the launch top "-force64" or "-force32" but those didn't help.

Any of the solutions on google didn't help because they're for people who had the PC game ages ago, without steam. All the fixes are like "Run as administrator." and lol..I can't just right click over RE4 in Steam Library and do that. Because running RE4 from the launcher itself brings up the error, "Cannot be run without steam."

So I am seriously at a loss here. I am not very tech smart and can't seem to find a solution via google. So can anyone help me? :<

You may have more success by going to the game-related forum here.

Remember to search for your answer first BEFORE posting, as it may be there is already a fixed detailed there. If not, then feel free to post again there.

I've never posted on the steam community at all. I can't find the game forum. x -x; So, sorry. I just posted where a help thing was.

Don't worry about it - we all have to start somewhere :)

There are a few ways to find the game's forum here. First, you can go to the Main Discussions page here and you'll note a box with a few tabs. One leads you to these discussions, the second to the GAME specific ones. Use a search to find RE4.

Also, you can go to your game library, click on RE4 (but don't start it) and then note the options on the right-hand side of the main screen. You'll see the game's discussions linked there (under Community Hub).

You're most welcome.

For the future, never be afraid to ask. That's what us users are here for - it's a good community :)
