Account Alert
I’ve got an account alert on my profile stating I’m banned from the steam community until November but as you can see that’s not actually the case at all, I can post in every forum with no issues. When I message steam support clearly explaining the issue I get the most asinine responses stating that I have been banned from the steam community until November and nothing more beyond that….does anyone know a way of removing these alerts from my profile? It has a box that states I must check it before being able to close the message window but that does nothing.

Where, specifically, are you seeing these messages? I'm not looking for something vague like "On my profile" or "from steam support". I'm looking for something specific like "My user profile description was edited to include this ban notice" or "I received a message from a user account on steam claiming to be Steam Support and also my ticket was closed."

Thanks for the reply, the account alert appears directly as a red bar directly at the top of my steam desktop app, if you click on the red bar which states “you have an account alert” it opens another window which gives the message saying I’m banned from the steam community until November, at the bottom of this window is a checkbox which it claims must be clicked to confirm that I have read the message to be able to permanently close the window and remove the alert. I’ve done this many times yet the account alert is still there.

I assumed it may be a bug as I can clearly still post on the community, I don’t care about being banned from video games forums, it’s just having the large red alert on my profile for months at a time when I’ve already read and agreed to the alert.

Account alerts do not go away unless they are removed by support or expire, whichever comes first.

Now, you are being vague on the message. Care to post what it says?

I’m sorry are you a valve employee because what you are saying seems to go against the interface which is stating that the window can indeed be permanently closed once the checkbox has been ticked to confirm that I have actually read the message.

I’m not sure what’s vague about the message as it stated that I have been banned from the steam community until November (the 8th I believe) and that I wouldn’t be able to post on here until then so that part is pretty straight forward and there is no issue with the message itself, the issue is that the remove alert function doesn’t appear to be working and I can obviously still post on the forums.

And again, the account alert will remain unless support removed the restriction or the ban expires.

You closing the window marking it read will only deactivate the pop up window when you log into your account but the account alert itself will remain as I stated above.

For clarification it’s the same type of window as what appears on step 2 on the above link, you can see at the bottom of the window the procedure for permanently closing it.

I know what it is. I've had them myself before.

I’m going to have to agree to disagree as the window has a clearly labelled checkbox stating that it can be permanently closed by checking it.

Why did you claim only a steam employee could close it or it has to expire then? It’s got a clearly labelled permanent removal feature.

Only the pop up window is closed and won't pop up again.

But the red alert at the top remains active until support removes the restriction or it expires.

This is how account alerts work.

That is not a "remove the red notice" checkbox.

That is only a "stop opening a pop up window that takes focus above the client window upon every login" checkbox.

It wouldn’t say permanently close the window then as that wouldn’t be permanent. In any case it still doesn’t explain how I’m able to post this right now. Thanks for trying to help though, it’s a far better answer than I got from steam support.

That's the only reason why I asked what the notice actually said.

I'm not sure why you're arguing about what will or will not happen if you click the box when you could simply click the box and see for yourself what happens.

Obviously something odd is going on that shouldn't be going on.
