Most games are suspended in the task manager when run
this issue has been going on for like year now and i cant find any solution. Whenever i run a game nothing happens, the game is labeled as 'running' but in task manager the game is suspended. This happens to most games but not all. For example, tabg works normally but any source game doesnt. Also games outside steam like valorant and minecraft work normally. I tried everything but nothing works. Verifying the game files, reinstalling the game, changing the beta, nothing works

Edit: well i solved the issue. Turns out my gpu wasnt functioning properly anymore. Thanks for all the help. Idk how i missed it it was kinda obvious that the issue is from the gpu.

No such things as suspended , you either block it or it has crashed.

First part is Security Firewall/antivirus or both, make steam.exe on allow list even game own .exe

The other is way more complicated browse to steam install folder and click game own executable does that trigger a crash msg.

and yes you might need to end task and try again or exit steam and restart it to be allowed to try again if you dont know what hang or crash app name is. ( so few games stay in memory as crashed after exit steam )

I mean you're aware that Suspended is an actual state in task manager right?

yes but i doubt you have taskout of the program on purpose. ( so yes blocking own game can lead to suspended for not to be allowed working, but im sure that dont count as suspended. )

Sparing myself writing a book sized message to explain everything: Re-install Windows.
Your Windows system is corrupt, not working properly. There's too many things this could be to answer without investigating it thoroughly.

It might be an anti-virus program or firewall stopping them from running. Check your anti-virus program and make sure it doesn't interrupt your games or Steam in any way.

It could also be that computer management process settings were changed and that's not letting them run.

If you've made no changes and your anti-virus or a firewall you have isn't blocking them re-install windows. Windows is corrupt. You can try the option to keep your data and just refresh system files but it's probably best to wipe everything clean and start fresh - especially if you never do any maintenance. There's a chance keeping any data you have will also keep whatever is causing this.

I tried that and all what changed is that it isnt suspended but it wont run and under steam in the task manager i get the 'windows problem reporting' with it too despite the fact that nothing pops up or opens on my screen
If something like that happens to games on a pc i intend to play on,
i would set that computer in a state that is similar to every one elses who play.

To get the obvious out of the way. Wouldnt wait a year to do that

What does task manager say about it now? Is it listed as running?
If it's listed as running maybe it's on another screen? That's possible even if you don't have another screen. Check windows display settings.

Also check to see, if task manager says it's running, if it's on a virtual desktop:

rn its labeled as running but its not on an another desktop. Even tho its running, under 'steam' i get even more of the "windows problem reporting" despite nothing actually popping up

You did re-install windows, right? If you did reinstall did you keep your data or do the factory reset? And have you turned all of your security stuff completely off to make sure it wasn't a security app causing it?

Just to add, depending on what Antivirus software you use, you may need to do more than disabling it while trying to run the games. Some will still block if it's quaratined them previously.

So OP can you confirm what steps you've tried of the suggestions thus far and what happened (if anything) each time?

Have you gone into your antivirus and checked to see if any of those games files or steam's files are being quaratined? If so, make exceptions for them.

yeah i disabled my antivirus once and made steam an exception but still same result. Update: i just got the first response on what isnt working. I kept one of the games running to see if after a while it will open but i got a pop up indicating that the data wasnt placed into memory because of an "I/O error" and an error status code. Ill look up help online and refer back to you

Ooof.

That's sounding suspicously like either a motherboard failure or RAM failure - something fairly serious.

If you suspect it's RAM, that should be easier to test in that if you can get hold of a spare to beg or borrow, swap it out and see if it persists. But if it's something on that motherboard, you're going to be SOL.

i found on the help forums on microsoft a bunch of tests i can run to detect the issue. if these didnt help then ill just try each ram stick to test if it works. If nothing works well its been a long time coming that ill inevitably get rid of this POS

Yeah, the only thing I can add finally is that there are more intensive memory scanners out there that might do a better job (but as usual, my bloody memory can't recall the names). So just bear that in mind if it doesn't show anything suspicious. It might just not be seeing the problem.
