Loud blast of static/white noise when launching certain Steam games on Windows 10 Pro
I upgraded to Windows 10 when it was released, then did a totally clean install. I'm running the 64 bit version of Windows 10 Pro. When I fire up Steam and launch certain games, I get a loud blast of static/white noise as the game is launching, then once the game has loaded up everything works fine, but when I exit the game I will often get another little blast of static/white noise.

This doesn't happen with every game. It's happened with about half of the games I've tried to launch so far since doing my clean Windows 10 install. For example, here's a video I shot of me launching Tomb Raider: -

The audio is bad because I recorded it on my phone, but you can hear the noise I'm talking about around 6-7 seconds into the video.

I have all of the correct drivers installed for my hardware. My sound card is an RME HDSPe AIO and it's running the latest drivers which are listed as being Windows 10 compatible. I'm not having any issues with audio on my system other than this, including when I'm actually playing Steam games, but this blast of static/white noise I get when launching certain games is really loud and annoying and I'd love to track down the cause!

Any ideas folks? Many thanks. :)

Have you considered trying to test this issue by not using your sound card for audio, that is if your motherboard has on-board audio ?

I haven't done that yet, but it's a good idea. It's getting late tonight, but I will give it a try tomorrow and see if I still get the noise when using the on-board sound.

Thanks for the reply!
Thank you and also....

To my knowledge, this list has not been updated in some time, and since Windows 10 is still somewhat new, perhaps there is a program on your PC that is causing issues when you launch some games. It may be worth having a look at, unless you have tried that option already and if so, please excuse me.

Please read it all very CAREFULLY.

Thanks for the link! I don't have any third party anti-virus or firewall applications installed. I do have a couple of programs in the list installed though: -

qBittorrent (not mentioned specifically)
CCleaner

However, I don't think either of those would cause this strange audio issue. I think it's more likely that it's either a configuration issue with my sound card's control panel (it's very complicated compared to most sound cards, but I believe I have it set up correctly), or it's an issue with the drivers. I've reported it to RME as well.

Thanks again! :)
You are welcome. Thank you for looking over the list completely. I suggest to disable qBittorrent or ensure that process is not running as you try to launch Steam and/or games to also test this issue. First, you may want to isolate the problem between on-board audio and your sound card, as mentioned above. Please post back if you have no luck with either of those.

There is a hardware and OS sub-forum here also that you can perhaps search for help in and that has excellent support from the community here. Good luck to you.

Same trouble here seems hit or miss when it comes to the games that it happens with.

Current set up:

Windows 10
Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
Asus Maximus VI Gene Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
PNY GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card
Corsair Builder 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0" Monitor
Nvidia Gsync DIY Mod
FiiO Olypmus2 DAC
Sennheiser HD 598

I have tried upgrading audio drivers ...I think this started about a week or two ago.

Happens during game launch...very loud blip of static

Does not happen with : Cod AW, Starbound, CSGo, Adventures of Van Helsing 2, PoE, Starcraft 2, Payday2, Mount & Blade, Rust, Shadow Warrior, The elder scrolls online, ARMA 3
