Steam causing BSOD when installing games [Solved]
Everything was fine at first, I could install games and all, but recently, I moved my computer because I got new furniture so I moved everything around in my room. After this every time I run the steam application and attempt to download games (mainly ARK: Survival Evolved) it crashes after (at maximum) 5 minutes. It will give me a BSOD at this point. I have attempted a factory restart, all of my drivers are updated, I've attempted uninstalling and reinstalling Steam, I've opened up my computer and used an air duster to get all the dust out of it since I haven't done that in a while while moving my computer, I don't know if that caused something or not. I will post the error here next time it happens, but one thing I do remember is NETIO.sys being part of the crash file.

Here are my specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
manufacturer: Lenovo
Model: Lenovo Windows7 PC
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3225 CPU @ 3.30GHz 3.30 GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System

Please help, I have no clue what is causing the issue and I really want to be able to play my steam games again! I have never had an issue with Steam before! If this has ever happened to you and you were able to fix it, please tell me how below. I'll try it and tell you if it worked!

UPDATE:
It happened again :/ I took note of the important information not the normal "If this is the first time you are seeing this" stuff so here it is:

Technical information:
***STOP: 0x0000007E (OxFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF880015A7A10, 0xFFFFF99005CBCD38, 0xFFFFF88005CBC590)

*** NETIO.SYS - Address FFFFF990015A7A1D base at FFFFF88001582000, DateStamp 5294760d

  1. Unplug and replug the cords in your computer case.

  2. Refresh your Steam -client files:
    https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638

  3. Try to open up your cmd.exe and type in
    sfc /scannow

  4. Try Selective Startup and see if the problem persists:
      1. Hold down the Windows and the R -buttons
      2. Type in msconfig
        • Click the Selective Startup -option.
          • Untick Load Startup Items

      3. Select the Services -tab; tick this:
        :correctamundo:
        Hide All Microsoft Services

        Press
          Disable All

      4. Apply & Close
      5. Restart PC
If it works, add the programs back in batches to narrow down the program(s) that cause(s) this issue.

Also ensure your antivirus & firewall allow Steam through (real-time scan exceptions, for example), as they only 'may' be disabled by selective startup.

While a 2010, thread, someone suggested this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/979444

While the error code doesn't match, it worked for someone in that thread with the error code that's yours.

That is a great guide and very informative, posted by Teutep, so I agree those should be the first things you can do.

I found this thread on a site that may help also, unless you have seen it already.

As Teutep said, I also suggest booting into safe mode (selective mode) to first test things out. Sfc and disk check are good to do also, since you said you moved your PC around.

If it does end up being an issue related to Nvidia (as posted in The Giving One's thread), you could also see if clean installing this driver could be of use: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3694/~/geforce-hotfix-driver-353.38

This is a GeForce Hot Fix driver, version 353.38 that addresses the following issues:
  • Chrome Crashes/Freezes/TDRs
  • Delays when starting or switching apps & games with GSYNC enabled

Steam runs on a browser similar to that of Chrome's, however your issue seems to be happening more so on the client side (Library); rather than Store, Community or the like.

(This seems to be more so an issue with some Maxwell cards though [GTX 9xx -series])

Thanks for the replies, I am currently attempting a few of the suggestions ( currently downloading the GeForce Hot Fix Driver) I still have a few more of your suggestions to go through, but I will go through them later as it is 2 AM and I need to get up at 7 AM, also I don't want to break the download by having Steam BSOD me again (if that were to happen, I just don't want to risk it) so i'll let everything download and cool off overnight and see if it works tomorrow morning. Thanks for the suggestions, I hope that they work!

Thank you so much!!! After trying everything else I wasn't very hopefull and thought that this wouldn't work. But after trying it, now I am able to download games on Steam without it giving me a BSOD. As I went in I expected it not to work, since nothing else did, but now I am at 25% of downloading ARK: Survival Evolved and that's way more than what I got before it crashed ever before. Before I would get 1 or 2% before my computer gave me a BSOD but now i'm a fourth done and not a single hiccup!!

Damn I wish I see your post early so I don't need to waste a lot of times. This solution works great for Microsoft Store and Xbox PC too. No More Computer CRASH when I try to install the game.
