Not enough disk space???!
On my old 6 GB PC I had all my games installed. Now, on my new 16 GB PC I have two games installed and am told when I try to install a third game that I have not enough disk space.

How can this be?

It was called a Steam error, btw. No idea what this is about. If somebody can give me a tip or two about what the problem may be, I'll be grateful.

PS. Since my PC is new, I obviously haven't had time to create more than a couple of documents and haven't had time to download any programs except for updates to what's already installed on the machine.

I'm sorry, but I don't know, and I don't know how to find out because I can't find the place I used to look which was My Computer. I'll take another look. brb.
You can't 'not know', otherwise you wouldn't be able to access anything on your hard drives. You could also just type in 'computer' in the start menu and press enter.
Yes I could - if I had a start menu. But I only have a desktop and a start window, you know, win 8 style.

On my previous computer I downloaded a program that allowed me to have a desktop with start menu. This time I assumed I had Win 8.1, but to my surprise I do have a desktop, just not the start menu. I've tried to use the 'search' feature in the start window, but it gives me all sorts of weird results or no results at all (that's very common, in fact - very plain everyday terms it just can't seem to find or udnderstand. Weird IMO).

And it also makes me feel stupid, but do try to understand that I am 100^ self taught, I've nver known anybody in my sodial network who knew about or was interested in computers, so I've always been left to find aout and learn everything on my own and with the help of the internet and sometimes other folks on the internet.
Thing is, it takes years to learn just the basic stuff that way, and you WILL invariably have a LOT of holes in your learning, it just can't be helped whern you have no teachers or colleagues or friends who can help you out. I'm not trying to make excuses, it's just the way it is.

At one point I signed up to get win 10 for free when it comes out, and I've heard it's a mix between the old desktop system and the win 8/win 8.1 Start Window/Screen system. And it just so happens that this is how my OS looks, so I'm wondering if they simply to my yes as a yes to get the Win 10 beta which is unfinished. I've tried to find and download a dekstop program like the one I had on the old PC, but I suddenly can't find any that's compatible with my OS, and that too makes me think I may indeed have Win 10 beta. If I'm right there may be several things that are different from the older Win OSs and I'll have a lot of googling and Microsoft visits ahead of me.

Just hope I'll be able to solve this problem first and at least find out where to find my computer's freaking data. When it doesn't know what I mean by the term 'My Computer... honestly that's kind of odd.

If you press the Windows Key + R it will open the run command.

In the run command type explorer.exe and click run. This will open a windows explorer window.

It should default you to the My PC folder that lists the hard drives you have. Once you find them list the Drives and how much space they have in this format:

C:\ 325GB free of 594GB
D:\ 22.2GB free of 24.9GB
ect...

Although if what you said before is correct and you only have 221MB of space left you will need to get a bigger hard drive or if you have space on another hard drive create a steam library folder on that drive and start installing there.

Like 99.9% of all people who use computers.
Niope, definitely not true. Most people today get computing from their first day in school, and most people know others who knows about computers, at least most people have a friend or two they can ask about stuff. This goes no less for gamers. Why do you think there's so much money in MMOs and coops? Not because people have to play singleplayer since they have no friends they can play with, that's for sure. I've played a few MMOs and it's very obvious that people lern from each other. It would also be rather strange if they didn't. My situation happens to be a bit unusual, though, so I haven't had the same access to learn stuff as most people over the last several decades.

That's what I meant when I said there are holes in my learning. I pick up new knowledge by talking to people who are kind enough to tell me me things, such as is happening here.

Thre's a map on my toolbar, I can access it from there. I also found my Control Panel there. I wouldn't have known what to do if that map/folder hadn't been there, for I remember specifically this being one of the things I had problem finding on my old computer before I downloaded the desktop program. I wish I could find such a program that works with this version od Windows, but I haven't been able to though I made several searches hoping to find one.

I disagree with that statement. Computer classes in schools are a fairly recent thing. If you're over the age of 25, you are likely self-taught. Hell, even little kids know how to use a computer these days. They don't need classes for that. It's pretty self-explanatory.

How old are you, by the way?
Dunno about the OP, but I'm pushing 50 and took computer/programming classes in (public) HS. They were math electives, but they were there. Although, at the time, I taught myself (and knew) more than the teacher.

Your earlier posts show you can look at the folders at least, correct? Like Documents and Program Files (x86) and such? Do that now. Over on the left side of that window you should see a bunch of things that say Favorites, Desktop, Downloads, Recent Places, Documents, etc.

Click on "Computer" or "This PC". (It was renamed to "This PC" in windows 8.1 apearently.)

You should now see at least one icon that says "Local Disk (C:)" or maybe "OS (C:)" or something like that. You may also have other letters like (D:), (I:), etc. Below each of these icons it should say something like 250 GB free of 500 GB. Those are the numbers we need to know. If you find them, post everything that is shown.

EXAMPLE:

Local Disk (C:)
137 GB free of 250 GB

Local Disk (D:)
22 GB free of 500 GB

Yes, I also found the out that My Computer in Win 8.1 is My PC, and I found the Program Files x86. It's full as well.

I've learned a lot since yesterday: I have a virus (can't even ruyn a disk cleanup and now only have 128 MBspace left on the entire computer). I can't remove the virus without help from a tech support, only I can't get in contact with them because I'm being redirected back to the initial page over and over.

I also can't update Withcer III now and therefore can't play - AGAIN. Says's it's a disk writing error.

This is driving me crazy. But thanks for trying to help me out, everybody.

Argh, this is infuriating. Not sure if you're trolling at this point. You've been given all the information and more on how to check your disk space. How much disk space do you have in total, why can't you just remove something to free up space, and why can't you install a free antivirus and antimalware program to get rid of this mystery virus you claim you have?

He may not know how to do it. This sort of thing is fairly common. Anyone who has worked in any sort of tech support capacity could tell you that. So I don't have any reason to believe he's a troll right now. Hell, I've had some people that just flat out required an on site visit if they had any kind of problem because they couldn't even find the start button on windows xp. Their computer knowledge began and ended with "Click the E to get on the internets." By that standard, he's doing pretty good. :)
Atom.Little 26 JUL 2015 a las 1:23 p. m.
I wasn't trollinhg. I just bought a new comouter and didn't have any idea that a new system has been initiated where the stuff you used to put on drive C: you now put on drive E:.

I was then told this and found the option at my Steam account, but it was greyed out, so I still couldn't use it.

I restarted the PC and then it worked.

But before I found out about this I didn't even think of the possibility that the C: drive could now be very small compared to what it used to be before. I called both Microsoft and the sales company who sold me the PC. They talked with me for a while and came up with the conclusion that it was surely a virus.

I was sure that had to be it. If nothing else, they were the experts and I couldn't think of any reasons not to believe their judgement was sound.

But after going through I don't know how many antivirus programs (inclusing Viper which takes hours to finish because it goes really in-depth) I began to wonder. In the meantime I was talking with a Microsoft tech supporter who was the one that told me the E: drive is what people use on newer computers (my old computer was about 2 years old but had the old system, and the computer before that became over 6 years old before it died, and it too used the C: drive as main storage system.

Finally, I do not know ANYBODY in my life offline who I can ask about IT stuff, AT ALL! You may think I'm lying and a troll, be my guest. I have told the truth, these are the conditions under which I live. I manage, but it does represent difficulties now and then when your ownly resource is online info and asking online acquaintances for help when new things come along. And new things do, and should, come along all the time.

Thank you, Shadow.

While I can't blame others entirely for thinking I'm a troll (after all, a lot of trolling Does go on on the net all the time), I really appreciate that you give me the benefit of the doubt, and it seems to me that you have a good sense for when people are being honest even though we know it isn't always easy.

But yeah, when in your real life you mostly get crap from people around you and you constantly have to work at remaining positive, it really does make a difference when someone comes along and says someting that isn't darkened with judgmental suspicion and altogether plain habitual negativity.

Thank you, buddy.

Double click this file:

C:\Windows\System32\diskmgmt.msc

Try not to adjust anything accidently. The scroll bars are safe.

You will see a list of all your letter labeled drives. These are technically all partitions. To understand those look to the lower part of the screen. You have physical drives "Disk 0", "Disk 1" etc... and each one can be chopped up any way you like. Don't adjust them now without bringing your computer to a nerdery, just report whats going on with each said "Disc x".

Just wondering if OP was able to figure out the disk space issue.
If you're having problems or have technical questions please feel free to describe/ask them here. You might also want to try the Hardware forum if you haven't already.
