Why does steam force us to log in?
I dont know how many other people are affected by the same senario i am, but im gettng kind of tired of having to sign into steam. Currently i have no internet at my house, and once in a while my computer does not want to remeber my log in info, so i cannot start steam offline. so i have to haul my ass over to the nearest starbucks and log in so i can play my games. But to me this is stupid and plain wrong. i bought skyrim, mass effects1-2, halo spartan assult and dark sector from steam. i have these games downloaded onto my computer and i cannot access them alot of the time becasue i have to go through steam? why? iv paid for these things and they are fully accessable should i not have internet and should my computer remeber to keep me loged in. Why must i go through steams ♥♥♥♥ block wall to play somthing thats fully downloaded to my computer! i dont get this and really its starting to piss me off.

Most games use DRM as a layer of security for invesmtents made by developers and publishers. You need to be logged in to verify your copy of most games. That will not change. Some games can be run from the .exe file though.

Steam requires an interenet connection. It says so in the system requirements. The fact that you're not meeting them is not Steam's fault

Though clearly doth not understand the message. Im not understanding why i need to go through a login system to get to games that are already fully downloaded on my computer. i shouldnt need to be forced to go through a system to start them up, i should just have to click and boom im in. they have doccumented proof i own said copy of the game(s), and should i want more i will buy it from them. but i shouldnt have to be forced to entertain this idea of personal login to access these games at my own leasure.

And this proof needs to be checked everytime you want to start a game. Else you could just copy the game directory to each of your friends PCs and they are able to play it - either instantly or after you have logged into your account once on their machine.

and this statement can be defussed by the fact that you can download steam onto another friends computer, and download the games from youre account onto their computer. or as well the account sharing method.

If steam finds out you are transferring your account to your friends they will terminate it.

Yea, well gamers at one point used to think the same way about paying people to use their products. So now we are here. Blame them. My computer is plugged into the wall and my internet isn't going anywhere. DRM is nothing to me.

You don't have to 'go through' anyone. All you have to do is keep an internet connection. Nothing else. It is nothing to worry about.

its just it feels like a punishment is being placed on their users. not everyone is going to have internet all the time, i had to choose buying college books over my internet bill. Yet still i own the games, but i cant access them unless i go out of home. its just not right is all. i dont hate steam anyless, just this bull crap ♥♥♥♥ block

That is what happens when people mistreat businesses. Additional security gets placed. The bad apples ruin everything for the good people. That is the way of the world.

You can get to a connection and log in online...then go offline. You should be able to access plenty of titles for a while.

That may be the most naive view on DRM I have ever read.

Dude....lets not get into a debate on this. I don't buy into all that crap most people complain about with DRM. I am not part of the gamer victimization crowd.

Whether you buy into it or not it has ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to do with people stealing (beyond day 0/1) and everything to do with controlling users (which incidentally is why it is being a PITA for the OP).

i do do the log in online then go offline, but sometimes my computer want to be stupid and not keep me logged in so it messes that up.

So by doing its original intention you think it is no longer about its original intention and is just a means of controlling people....because it is doing its job. OK.

It was just kind of a workaround. I think there is a list of DRM free games on here somewhere. Maybe try searching for it? You should have something you can run from the .exe. Even without an internet connection. Only a few games do this though.
