Unsupported Filesystem
Ok. So I downloaded Watch Dogs, I tried to update it but it says "An error has occurred while updating Watch_Dogs (disk write error)", so I uninstalled it and now when I try to download it, it says "An error has occurred while installing Watch_Dogs (unsupported filesystem)". Steam Support is useless and never replies so is there any ways to resolve this problem?

You need to check if your File System on HDD is FAT32 or NTFS. Basicly if Watch Dogs has a file, any file, larger then 4 GB and you have FAT32 then you will get that error. In order to resolve that issue, you need to reformat your HDD in NTFS format.

Reformat is better, but if you don't have other HDD for backup data, you can convert FAT32 to NTFS. Run cmd.exe as Administrator and use command:
convert %disk letter%: /FS:NTFS /V (V- verbose mode)

I install all my games in my external hard drive and its a FAT32. How come I can install it the first time with no problem, but now I can't? I uninstalled it because i got the disk write error thing...

likely to file system damage or surface - common for external drive
scandisk to check and possibly, MHDD | Victoria (surface test)

I was running into the same issue as you. Originally I used an external hard drive for extra storage space for steam games. It is a pretty old hard drive and I didn't know at the time that it was formatted as a FAT32. I never ran into any issues until recently, where randomly one day all of my updates kept failing with the error "Unsupported File System." After reformatting it as an NTFS, the problem has been fixed. It seems though that steam will give you hassles trying to update games on a valid NTFS hard drive if you even so much as have an extra steam library on a different hard drive that isn't NTFS. It also seems that just unplugging it seems to work as well, in case you want to keep any files on the external hard drive and still use it for other purposes.

You both necroed a thread from 2014 - I think OPs issue is solved by now.

Adding to extremely old necroed threads pings everyone who's still subbed to the thread. If your issue isn't solved by an older thread it's better just to make a new one.

And i'm very glad they did. The explanation in there, that "if you even so much as have an extra steam library on a different hard drive that isn't NTFS" was what solved MY problem. So you caring about necros that DON'T even involve YOU is not needed, tyvm.

And your reply to a thread from 2014 wasn’t necessary at all and doesn’t involve you - threads notify everyone subbed to it.

Hopefully a mod will actually locked it this time.

Well it does involve me, since as i said it SOLVED my issue. And it was an implicit thanks to Trizzy. in there as well, which i would consider at least a kind thing to do even if not really necessary. Also, if it help people understand that necros aren't really an issue, especially when they highlight how LONG an issue has been in the software for, then i do consider my comment in fact necessary.

Here's to another notification for you. If people don't want to get notified by a particular thread, there's a button up top that allows for that. ;)

You sure didn't need to reply with anything since all it did was solve your problem. If you had additional useful information that would be a different matter, but as is you're just necroing a thread for little more than aggression.

Agreed. Downloaded Hogwats yesterday and I am getting the error for the update that came out today.

Blame shifting. xD Hopefully, you did realize that this is a "looking for help thread" started by OP..
Besides, if you want people to read your thanks, then they shouldn't be unsubscribed. I am sure that they will appreciate your thanks though. You placed a lot of energy into it.

What I actually wanted to comment on is that, if this is an issue that has been around that long, then the best place to discuss this would be in the Steam Beta hub, posting it as Feedback.

I think it could be useful to provide feedback the way you did there, since especially with the Steam Deck being released, people will want to use external drives more often.

If you're looking for help, I recommend starting your own thread.
Currently it looks like an intentional derail, changing the one requiring help from OP to you.

Anyway for those who want to thank people, Steam invented awards.

You sound like you would be fun at parties. Anyways I guess I'll give noob_lurker another award. As for all those getting triggered over a necroed thread, touch some grass.
