Emoticons?

One of the prerequisites for the Pillar of the Community Badge is using an emoticon in Steam chat. That seems simple enough (after all, Steam has an emoticon button with a few built-in options), but the description of emoticons given in the badge makes it sound as though emoticons are items of some sort. Are they?

i haven't been able to get this one because the built in emoticons don't work. I think there are special ones that drop while crafting.

when you have an item in your inventory that is a emoticon when you click on it there will be something that says :....: copy the text including the colons then paste this into a chat and the emoticon will appear this is an example

Yes emoticons are items that drop whilst crafting badges. Most are really cheap at about 3 pence.

You will need the "special" emoticon - which mean you only obtain then by buying the game that's participate in the Steam Card Trading System - complete the card set, and you will get reward of steam level EXP, emoticon of that game, background of that game, a coupon/a item for the game(rare case).

I have one "special" emoticon from Goat Simulator if you want - can't gift though, i've to trade you for something if u want this special emoticon
