Xfire and Steam no longer work together?
Since a recent update, Xfire and Steam no longer work together for me, even if I disable Steam in game overlay. Non Steam games still run with my Xfire just fine. Anyone any ideas why? Anyone else seeing this too?

Now before the predictable "lol wtf u want to still use Xfire for???!" replies, I know Xfire is on its last legs, but I find it really useful for voice chat and chat to friends on Yahoo and MSN networks. I don't like Steam voice chat at all because for some reason you still can't have voice chat come out of your headset, it has to come out of the TV/monitor speakers and it creates an awful echo sound on my setup and is basically unusable.

Xfire also works with way more games than any alternatives I've tried, especially older games.

did Steam fixed this problem by this time? I must use the old Xfire client because I can't install the new one (download server error)
Steam doesn't even see this as a problem, this seems to have been done on purpose as the game does not shut down/crash unless steam.dll hooks into the game; it is highly unlikely they are going to fix something they caused. The only way you're going to get around this if you want to use the old version is to not purchase Steam versions...

As far as the new version is concerned, I don't know why you would be getting a server error. It might be you are trying to download it from the wrong location, but if it's a problem, I could always create a temporary mirror on my personal site. If anything, I suppose I could transfer it over the messenger (you will need to respond to this thread to let me know if that's the case otherwise any invites will be rejected; I don't accept blind invites, I have to know the person before I will add them). You will still need to use the old version of Xfire in some older games that are using older renderers (DX7, DDRAW, GDI) as they haven't been supported in the new version yet, but the new version is the only way to get around the steam.dll block.

FYI I tried to download it from social.xfire.com
I get server connection errors from the CloudInstaller (see pictures below). The picture are german sorry:

I think I know what that error is (even if I can't understand the text in your screenshots), try launching the installer as Admin. If that don't work, also run it in Window XP compatibility mode. Before trying any of that however, make sure the installer can access the internet as the new version of Xfire now uses a web installer & it can't pull the needed data if it can't access the internet.

Tried this again the other week and the problem seems to have gone away. I guess it's just a matter of time before Xfire fizzles out entirely though. Why Valve won't fix Steam voice chat to properly stupport headsets and external speakers I simply do not know.
не понимаю:D
