Can I add a game key to my account without having to install Steam.
As the title says.... can I add a game key while logged in to my account on the Steam website?

it may be to block someones key from been stolen from fake Steam sites and so on

Yeah, it adds some level of security, and is rarely an annoyance. To my knowledge, Steam doesn't even have "time limited"-keys, so you can just as well keep it around until you get back to a computer with a Steam client.

To add game keys, actual game keys like AAAA-BBBB-CCCC-DDDD, you have to use the Steam Client.

Some indie bundles (Humble Bundle and Indie Gala IIRC) however take advantage of a new interface where the key isn't actually shared: you log with your steam account (the green "sign in through Steam" button) on their site and you get links you can click to redeem the game to your library - no client involved.
Hopefully every third party seller will adopt this system soon.

You can, but it seems only on phones. Ive done it but have only been able to on my phone, when visiting steampowered.com in the browser. If i manage to do it again ill write down how i did it.

(1) This thread is from YEARS ago.

(2) Wrong, you can use a desktop web browser and it does work.

(3) For mobile, a typical web browser should suffice.
