I use laptops to game on all the time, and have them set up by my bed. So I feel you.
So what I have to ask is this - do you REALLY have to close the lid? Or would it simply be better to disable the laptop screen while you have it plugged in to your TV?
If the latter is fine, then simply go to Windows Settings > Display and check the setting that has the disaply go to just your TV screen when HDMI cable is plugged in, instead of mirroing or extending the display.
Sometimes laptop manufacturers can have weird settings under their own setup too so this might eba simpler shortcut.
i mean you walk in at company and plug it in, if you need to configured that every time, you are in trouble if it dont work. ( typical powerpoint or media showcase laptop )
