Can't login
Hi.

I have a secondary account, and I cannot login with it anymore. I was sure I knew the password, but it stopped working. So I changed the password, using the lost password form, but the new password still does not work.

I changed the password 2 or 3 times that day. Everything went fine, except for the fact thar the new passwords also did not work. I tried again some days later. Now it's been over a month, tried again, set up a new password successfuly, but it also does not work - says it is incorrect.

I can't get help because the steam support page just makes me change the password yet again.

This happens:
- In 3 different computers
- on the Steam client
- on the website (different browsers)
- in the app.

The account in question is not logged in in any device or associated with a login through the app.
Any ideas?

because that is not really required to reset/change password
the account name is mentioned in every email communication your receive from Steam .. f.e. the password reset email.

The email was *NOT* changed. I *AM* able to change password. In fact, I changed it 3 times already. But I still can't log in with the new password.

Today I tried again. I used the form to change the password. Everything went smoothly as yesterday, changing the password is easy. Got the email, followed the link, choose a new password, but this time it says this:

An error occurred trying to handle that request (Error 29)

I think I changed passwords too many times. The problem is that the only option Steam gives me is... change password!

Take the following steps to secure your account:

1. Scan for malware. https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Check that the email and phone number on the Steam account are still yours.
3. Deauthorize all other devices. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
4. Change passwords from a clean computer.
5. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
6. Revoke the API key (there should be no key). https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

Ok, this was just a temporary server issue. I managed to change the password, trying again in a new browser:

The new password still does not work.

I'll try that in a second, Lavie. Thanks.

My secondary account is not linked a mobile app. I'm doing this from a fresh Ubuntu install, it's as clean as clean can be. I can't deauthorize all other devices, as I can't log in.

I initially thought my account was also hacked so I went through the whole process of deauthorizing all devices, scanning my computer, changing email passwords and then resetting it. I can log in to the browser just fine currently but I believe any attempts to log in through the steam apps is resulting in a problem. Down detector had a spike in users reporting problems last night for steam, so I suspect this is likely related.

If someone has other insights I'm all for trying but right now seems more like we will have to sit and wait.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is on their side. On mine, I can't login in the client and in 2 different browsers.

It's been a month. No help here, no help by the email support. This should be illegal :/

Valve support uses neither these forums or email for support.

No mystery why you aren't getting help from them. Users on these forums have no access to help you...

https://help.steampowered.com/en/

The support system does work, if you use it.

Could you clarify? That seems to be a bunch of random words... I can't make any sense out of it at all.

use windows cog wheel, check for update, some have extra update under the main update button in that update its mention a steam failing login issue FIX.

It's Microsoft windows updating pc issue. ( if that is not the case, then you have other issue then. )

I use mostly Linux, but this problem happens in the app and browsers, as well. It's not about the OS.
