Steam browser stuck on page/freezing
Since around the last Steam sale, I have noticed that occasionally the Steam browser gets stuck on a particular page. It appears to just freeze, but does not actually crash. You can switch between "tabs" or try to reload the page, which results in a loading spinner, but no actual change... I noticed this frequently in the 2015 summer sale game and also the activity page. Must have occurred at least 10 times in the last 2 weeks, but I never experienced it prior to that. Maybe a recent bug introduced?

Yep. Happens to me too, occassionally. Hasn't happened today, though. Yet anyway. It's a minor annoyance that requires restarting the client.
Yeah, happens to me a lot. Mostly for the activity feed though. (So many things to load, I guess)

This is happening to me off lately. A LOT. So let me know if you found a fix.

It's work for me.
First, Go to steam setting > Web Browser > Delete both browser cache and browser cookies.
Second, Go to setting > account > change Beta participation to "NONE - Opt out of all beta programs"
And EUREKA!!

How do I go to account? And where is the Beta Participation thing?

Worked like a charm. Thanks!

I had this issue where going to my Activity Feed would make the client lock up. Turned out that something in one of Atlas Reactor's updates was breaking it. Clearing the cache and cookies got it working again until I got to that same update. Cleared the cache and cookies again and unfollowed Atlas Reactor and that kept it from breaking again.

Holy Schit on a Stick, this worked!! Literally just cleared my Browser Cache in the Settings window, and the main window behind it immediately refreshed and started working... You just solved an age-old problem for me. I've been a member of Steam for 14 years and this has been driving me crazy for a long... @ss... time lol.

Thank you!!!:2016snocone:

(Also, screw your Censor Valve!!)

Glad to hear that.
Have a nice day.

I know this is an older thread, but I've recently started to experience this. Clearing cache and the like as well as making sure I've opted out works for about 5 minutes and then it get's stuck again.

Any thoughts?

Not quite a fix till Steam Updates their browsers

Weird... I've only had the issue pop up one other time on a game page that had a bugged video that was trying to play, but clearing the cache and stuff again immediately resolved it. Hasn't happened again since then and that was several weeks ago for me.

The issue may actually be on the page that you're trying to view. I notice that some game pages either have a bugged video or some weird janky code that freezes the page. Never knew how to resolve it, til the suggestion from Darth_Khaos (Thx again dood)

EDIT: And by resolve it, I mean that I'm now able to unfreeze the client without restarting it, so I can navigate away from the page that is causing the issue. If I go back to the page and it freezes again, I know it's the page and not the client.

this page does it to me every time i go to it:
https:// store. steampowered .com/app/107100/Bastion/
(remove the spaces from link, i put in spaces so Steam wouldn't parse this link into a bastion ad....)

note: to open that link or others in steam easily, try restarting steam from a shortcut with the peramiter -console on the shortcut line. heres a example for my pc:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -console

when steam starts with the console option, click CONSOLE at the top of the screen next to your name. Then just copy and paste the above url with "open" in front of it like this:

open https:// store. steampowered .com/app/107100/Bastion/
(
remove the spaces from link, i put in spaces so Steam wouldn't parse this link into a bastion ad....
just remember to leave a space after "open"
like this "open "
)

that's how to easily open near any web link especially steam store pages and forum links, in steam easily. or manage your paypal from -in- the steam window.

anyway yeah Bastion freezes my steam completely. every time. using the
settings > web browsing > empty cashe option is how i unfreeze the page, but only if i have it go to a new page before Bastion page can load again so i have to be quick! i use CONSOLE to be quick and jump to a forum page or something to get away.
