It wasn't able so sustain a player base due to other games being more attractive.
In short, they didn't do enough to stay alive. So they pulled the plug four years ago.

The Battle Royale genre was and still is oversaturated. So it's a survival of the fittest. H1Z1 didn't make it. Simple as that.

Sadly you can refuse to believe it all you want, but evidence is evidence, and we can check it here. And it did not get the playerbase to sustain it. That much is clear.
Game fizzled out with between 1-3k players even after a couple of re-brands. Game was also getting slapped by PUBG at the time and had expensive operating and concept licencing costs. Competition was also rife back then with several BR games including Blackout. There was no way back.
