Shogun total war 2 isnt loading on my laptop
I have had Shogun total war 2 for awhile now, I have put 7.5 hours on it. Then one day it just stopped loading. It is really frustrating because I really like playing it. I have a ASUS republic of gamer 551. Any suggestions will be helpful

Can you please provide more detail here about the problem ?
Any error messages ?
PC activity when you try to load up the game from Steam ?
What are your system specs as in OS version ?

Well, when i click on the play button, it goes to the intial load screen. Then it cuts out and says Shogun 2 has stopped working and shows the system "trying to find a solution to the problem" then it stops searching and says the system will notify me when a solution has been found.

As for system specs, Like i said i have a ASUS republic of gamers 551.
As for specs, according to amazon it has:
Intel Core i7-4710HQ 2.5GHz (Turbo to 3.5 GHz).
• 1TB 7200RPM Hard Drive. 16GB RAM.
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB GDDR5 with Optimus Technology.
• 3x USB 3.0, 1x HDMI, 1x MiniDisplay. SDXC Card Reader. 802.11 A/B/G/N. Gigabit Ethernet Port. 720P HD Webcam.
• 15.6" Full HD Display. Aluminum Body ROG Signature Chassis.
forgive me I am not really a computer guy
Thank you very much. I have seen this before with Shogun, and it was quite a difficult problem to find the cause of.

However, you have stated that you had it working at one time on your PC, so is that correct ?

If so then perhaps thinking back to what you did maybe to your PC that changed that may have cuased this ?

Installed any new third party programs ? See this list and read it all, please, very carefully, top to bottom.

You posted your specs, but you missed the one thing I asked you. Please read my post again.

yes i logged about 10hrs into the game. I have Mcafee. and sorry, what do you mean OS version
OS version...Operating system.
(Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8.1, etc.)

And Mcafee is on the list as you have seen. You can try to whitelist games and Steam in your antivirus settings, but that may not always help.

Also, make sure the game is allowed through your firewall, but I would assume you would have seen a different message if it was not.

Also, do this twice just to make sure.....

I understand you have 10 hours on the game, but 10 hours on THIS PC ? The one with the problem ? That matters, you see.

EDIT..I found this on an older thread. It may help you as this is probably runtime related.

Are you saying that you upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8 and THEN this problem started ?

IF so, that surely would have been helpful to know about before now.
the problem started when i windows 8, i recently updated to windows 10

Are you sure your GPU drivers are fully up to date and for Windows 10, considering your GPU hardware and your OS ?

Are you sure your PC is fully Windows 10 compatible ?

Have you tried to disable Optiimus ?
"Zjones1994, be aware that any laptop with Optimus will cause problems with Solidworks, unless you can disable Optimus. A number of people have reported this problem with the G750JS/JZ models, where people bought them to do rendering, then found that they couldn't get the application to use the Nvidia GPU, it would only go to the integrated iGPU on the Intel CPU."

according to my system update, i am up to date. and no i have not tried.
First , never use Windows update to install your drivers for GPU. And Windows update is not what I am talking about anyway here.

Only use the recommeneded installaton proceedure and the newest and relevant driver from the website of the manufacturer of your GPU hardware.

It seems you have "upgraded" your PC there without knowing exactly if it will run or what needs to be updated and/or changed for that new OS, but please forgive me if I am mistaken here.

You need to make sure your PC will actually run Windows 10 properlly. It SHOULD fine, but you need to make sure.

Then, you need to get the drivers for your PC from the ASUS website concerning Windows 10 and your hardware that you have in your PC.

Then, you need to get the GPU drivers as I have stated here above.

I do not know, as i have said before i am not a computer guy. I got the windows 10 update, and update my NVDIA graphics program thing and that was about it. It runs all of my other games just fine, just not shogun total war 2, but the problem for that began long before i got windows 10
