Do the old Dos games come with Dosbox?
Just a question that's been bugging me.

From reading the various discussions about Dosbox, and from what I've been able to get from Wikipedia, it looks like all the old Dos games that Steam sells, such as Descent 2, automatically come bundled with Dosbox. In yes-or-no terms, am I correct in assuming that?

Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior Classic, etc. have both: Windows ported and DOSbox launchers

That answers my first question. Now on to another one. Since I've bought the Steam version of Descent 2, which launches through Dosbox, do I have to do anything else to play the game, from a standpoint of legality, or are there additional things I need to do before I can install the game? I ask because I'm a Dosbox noob, and I get paranoid about stuff like this.

I do not understand the essence of your question about the license
You want to run the game without Steam?
it's NOT GOG, Steam not only the purchase and delivery platform digital content, but DRM, very specific

DOSbox is Open source... or you paranoid about SourceForge?

questions about the game itself better to ask in the forum of the game

Okay, it was late at night, and my mind was going like crazy. The Dosbox entry of Wikipedia says that it's under the GNU General Public License, and I don't know what that means, in terms of legality, for people who want to buy and run the game through Steam. So from that sense, is using Steam to buy and install one of these games enough, or is there more I need to do?

Read the GNU General Public Liscense and see what it says.

DosBox is an opensource DOS Emulator, so not, it does not come with DOS.

No additional license is needed as DosBox is free to use and companies can't charge for it. When you buy the game, DosBox is included for free in order for the game to be playable.

So buying and playing the game through Steam is enough?

I really would appreciate an answer, since the game in my first question is one of my all-time favorites.

I got DarkForces on Steam and DosBox does not require any further licence. For you as a private person it is no concern because it is free. If anything it required the publisher to check the legal terms in using DosBox with their own product.

Okay, I got the answers I was looking for. My conscience is now clear, and I can resume playing the game. As far as I'm concerned, this topic is closed.

Yes, as you are paying for the game.

DosBox is a free license for anyone's use.

Awesome, thank you for the clear, easy-to understand answers, everyone who actually provided one.
GNU Public License is a freeware license that basically says that anyone can use it as long as they don't block other people from using it, I think.
