Frustrated with Family Share
What's the secret? I have spent the day authorizing my son's computer and account to use my library... yet I keep getting pushed to PURCHASE. Come on STEAM - are you trying to frustrate me into buying multiple copies of a game? If I had disks, I would simply install it where it needs to be played. But I am not buying two copies of a game only one family member is playing.

What's the secret?

Many people use Family sharing, it works if you set it up right.

Steam Family sharing is different from iOS app.

iOS apps: All family shared member can use any time.
Steam: Only one account can be used.

So if your account is active on ANY game or app, shared member cannot used.

Family Shared games is not a workaround to buying games more than once. Many games don't even support Family Sharing. You have to buy them multiple times on each account. Someone using the games account on the account LOCKS the account.

Well for one that game doesn't support family sharing.

Not all games support family share.

Looking at your posthistory, it seems to be "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege" that game is excluded from familyshare.

Yeah, you are a bit confused.

Maybe for the future the better bet would be to look up on Steam the official guides and info to the system you're trying to use.

Seam does do a few things a bit differently, so it's ALWAYS best to get a heads up beforehand.

And as others have said, family sharing does often nee da wee bit of setting up and most importantly, NOT ALL GAMES support it.

Lastly, do note, it ain't down to Valve. They can only offer the service. It's down to the rights owners of the games to implement it or not. Go moan at them.

Anywhy, the "secret" is really, really simple and aplpies for eveything here on Steam - RAD THE RULES ABOUT EACH FEATURE before attmepting it.

Except a lot of games back in the day would require the cd to be in the computer to play it thus you would need two copies.

Do you really expect game devs to allow their game to be sold once but multiple people play it for free after at the same time?

To clarify - I posted in the wrong game forum... I wasn't sharing Rainbow Six. Also, I am not trying to play the game more than one at a time so the CD comment is a nice throwback, but not relevant :)

Not all games are family share enabled.
