Should you use an old password? Probably not

If due to 'reasons' = someone else knew what it was then changing it back would be a silly idea now wouldn't it. The whole point of changing a password to something new is so that no one knows what it is.

Lots of places prevent you reusing old passwords because if it was ever compromised in the past it could be known to someone trying to gain access

if u only forgot it and have reset it, you probably can use the old one but if you have forgotten it in the first place... :>

Reasonable but third parties that run the service won't know that and it's easier to just have a blanket you can't reuse passwords requirement.

Plus it can't be that good if you forgot it or like OP want to reuse it because they love it.
You can use the password you like for your password manager (if the password is good).

You should not use a password for more than one thing.

Just try it and get your answer. Simple as that

The real question is,
what could others do if you do that?

if you hypothetically want to give your account to a friend but u dont want to tell him your real password,
password wise it should be no problem to switch forth and back but i think its against steam tos to give your account to a friend to try something or whatever

Well don't come here crying that your account was locked or stolen if you are doing something along the "same idea" as that.

You should never reuse old passwrods for the obvious security concerns.

If you're ahving issues with remembering passwords then change how you do this. It really is simple.

Some people swear by password management software (I don't because I don't like assuming others are as secure as they claim they are).

I simply do this -

I have a diary every year. In that diary first thing I do is copy across all my lognins and passwords from my previous diary.

I don't go out so it stays at home with me, and noody is going to burgle it. If a burglar got in and by some miracle I wasn't here, I'm pretty sure no burgalar think "I'm going to steal his diary".

So unless you have some itinerant sibling or something it's as safe as houses.

Honestly it sounds so obvious, but people often overlook such things. I know I did for years.
