I delete steam.old.exe from steam folder
DawdlingDan Dec 15, 2015 @ 1:43am
Go in Steam directory, rename steam.exe.old to steam.exe, disable Avast shields, retstart steam.
DawdlingDan Dec 15, 2015 @ 1:43am
Poster above me, re-install steam.

Check avast virus chest, scan it and restore steam.exe. It wont flag again, false positive avasts end. No need for re-install just redo your shortcuts. The virus chest can be found under statistics > component status.

Not sure if this is what happened to me, because avast didn't pop up anything. But the steam client auto-updated, and i clicked restart steam, however steam never did restart, and the update must of deleted the steam app, because it is not there anymore. I had to re-download the steam client and re-install it. It did work, however, but wasted some time :(

Sounds about right. Avast is on the list and seen here many times to cause problems with Steam.
Read this, please.
