Steam failed to start game unknown error
This error happens when I try to play TF2 or cs:go(i just bought csgo).

I verified cache for both games, reinstalled steam, checked the event viewer which said steam needs to be updated, although i just updated steam. I also checked the bootstrap logs and it said package file...missing or incorrect. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you.

Right-click game in your library, click properties, click local files, click verify integrity of game files.

Tried verifying the integrity of game files, done it a couple times now, I forgot to mention that this have been going on since yesterday. I'll check the files a bit more to see if I can find a solution.

This is a bit of a red flag right here, in your title.

What is your antivirus program ?

What is your operating system ?

When you verify the cache of games using that feature, you must do it EXACTLY as it says to, step by step, just in case you are not.

Saw a thread here once where a user claimed he was not running Steam as admin when doing the verification, and that fixed his problem. Probably because of the Windows UAC and having Steam installed in program files folders.

Never heard of that one. Are you totally sure you have exceptions to real-time scanning included in that antivirus program ? The easiest thing to do is just to add the whole Steam folder to exceptions. IF that does not help, the usual suggestion as a test is to disable that. Finally, fully uninstalling it may be necessary if that is your problem, as some antivirus programs don't get along with Steam. You must reboot after any software uninstallations.

Yours is not listed, but this list may not contain everything. See if there is other software listed that is on your computer.

"Anti-Virus Applications - Any Anti-Virus program could potentially block Steam and Steam game access, especially when not properly configured for use with Steam. Please make sure that Steam and all Steam games are listed as exceptions in these programs. If the issue persists, please try disabling or temporarily uninstalling the program to test the issue."

After you resolve that problem of exceptions, you will need to run the verification process again for EVERY game affected by this problem you have there.

Yeah, I put steam and all of its content on the trusted list.

I disabled it while re-installing steam

It mistake certain files as false-positives before, so I re-installed all of the games I planned to play.

Not to mention it did mistake and delete a counter strike file as a virus, so right now, I have it disabled.

From what you just posted above, especially since you point out that it has affected your Steam and games so much before, it surely does sound like it is particularly problematic with Steam.

All I can say at this point is to read that part again, from the page I linked....and pay special attention to what I have and had placed in bold.

See how your error messages and event log reports above show the issue is with the game .exe files ? That certainly can point to this antivirus program. And add in your point above about having an issue with the Steam client itself before, too.

Othewise, is Windows and ALL drivers, including GPU fully up to date with the latest hardware and OS drivers for your OS ?
